LUMA Hotel – Times Square
I'll be honest – when I first walked into LUMA Hotel - Times Square, I wasn't expecting much.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into LUMA Hotel – Times Square, I wasn’t expecting much. I mean, most hotels in this part of Manhattan feel like they’re trying way too hard to be trendy, you know? But this place actually surprised me. The lobby has this warm, almost residential feel that somehow manages to cut through all the chaos happening just outside on 41st Street. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the madness of Times Square, but once those elevator doors close, it’s like you’ve escaped to somewhere completely different.
What really got me was how they’ve thought about the details that actually matter when you’re staying in New York. The rooms aren’t huge – let’s be real, this is Midtown Manhattan – but they’re designed smart. Everything has its place, and honestly, the beds are fantastic. I’m someone who usually tosses and turns in hotel beds, but I slept like a rock here. The windows do a surprisingly good job of blocking out the street noise too, which is no small feat when you’re this close to all the Broadway theaters and tourist crowds. Speaking of which, if you’re catching a show, you can literally walk to most of the theaters in under ten minutes – I timed it to the Lyceum and it was seven minutes, even with all the sidewalk traffic.
The staff here actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how rare that is. When I asked about getting to Brooklyn without dealing with the subway mess around Times Square, the front desk guy immediately suggested walking over to the N/Q/R/W at 42nd and Broadway instead of fighting the crowds at the Port Authority entrance. Little things like that make such a difference. It’s definitely a four-star experience – not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but everything works the way it should. The morning coffee in the lobby is actually decent (again, sounds simple, but half the hotels I stay at serve swill), and they’ve got this little market setup where you can grab snacks without having to venture into the tourist-trap delis on every corner. If you’re looking for something in Times Square that doesn’t feel like you’re staying inside a theme park, this is your spot.

Fantastic location, friendly, super-helpful staff, great location - good for Gluten Free
Breakfast was very good and Ron, the manager, was brilliant. He went out of his way to make our daughter, who is Celiac, feel comfortable, getting her gluten free bread and even brownies for breakfast, as well as getting us juices for our days out.
Front desk staff were very helpful, getting us taxis and sorting our luggage
The standards of cleaning were excellent - they even wrapped up our charging wires with a velcro tie!
Size of beds - King beds were huge and very comfortable
Bathroom was very clean with a good shower
Nespresso coffee machine with free pods was very good
Having a safe in the room was very useful
The location is fantastic - literally a stone's throw from Times Square and on Broadway.
Also, 50m from Bryant Park - which is lovely, with a very cool, relaxed atmosphere - my favourite place in NY
What could be improved: This is nit-picking...
The room was small with little space
The view was directly onto a brick wall
The bar was expensive
The bed covers were very thin
