La Quinta by Wyndham Time Square South
Look, I'll be honest - when I first walked into La Quinta by Wyndham Time Square South, I wasn't expecting much from a three-star chain hotel in this part of town.
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into La Quinta by Wyndham Time Square South, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star chain hotel in this part of town. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It sits right on West 38th Street in Hell’s Kitchen, and I mean, you’re literally a stone’s throw from all the Times Square madness without having to deal with the tourist crowds trampling over you every time you step outside. The lobby’s got this clean, modern vibe – nothing fancy, but it doesn’t feel cheap either, and the staff at check-in were genuinely friendly (not that forced hotel smile thing you usually get).
What really won me over was how they’ve managed to make the rooms feel bigger than they actually are, which honestly is no small feat in New York. The beds are surprisingly comfortable – I’m talking actually restful sleep despite being in the middle of Manhattan, which is basically a miracle. The bathrooms are compact but well-designed, and here’s something I appreciated: decent water pressure in the shower. You’d be amazed how many hotels in this price range completely botch that basic necessity. The rooms face different directions, so if you’re sensitive to street noise, definitely ask for something facing away from the avenue when you book. I stayed on the seventh floor facing the courtyard side and could barely hear the city – well, except for the occasional siren, but that’s just New York being New York.
The location is where this hotel really shines, though. You’re walking distance to Hell’s Kitchen’s restaurant scene (and I mean the real deal, not just tourist traps), plus you can easily hop on the subway at Port Authority or Times Square depending on where you’re headed. I found myself grabbing coffee at this little spot called Birch Coffee just around the corner most mornings – way better than the typical hotel lobby stuff. The whole area has this energy that’s distinctly New York without feeling overwhelming, especially if you walk west toward Ninth or Tenth Avenue where things calm down a bit. Parking‘s going to cost you extra if you’re driving (honestly, don’t drive here), but the hotel staff can point you toward the most reasonable garages nearby. For what you’re paying and where you’re staying, this La Quinta delivers exactly what it promises – a clean, comfortable base for exploring the city that won’t blow your entire travel budget on just the room.

Great accommodation!
Perfect location near Times Square and Penn Station for easy access to JFK. Room itself was very clean and fully equipped with a fridge. Water, coffee and cookies in the reception area was a plus!
What could be improved: Breakfast area was a bit tiny
Great value for money
In contrast to the craziness of Time Square, this hotel is quiet, peaceful, and very clean. We were very happy with our stay!
Wonderful
Very accesible to the city center
What could be improved: The breakfast room was a bit small for many guests
Wonderful
breask was good. Location is great.
Will come again
Itβs very clean, has a good breakfast, and has really really nice and friendly staff. I got a crib for the baby. Always water tea and coffee on the first floor. Location is good as well, very close to the subway and Times Square, and a bunch of restaurants and takeout out very close by
What could be improved: All good.
I still recommend this hotel, we had a great stay!
Great location, walking distance to much in midtown. Just a few meters (!) to the hustle and bustle of 8th Ave but on 38th St itβs calm ond our room we didnβt hear the street at all. Comfy room and the bad was fantastic. Nice TV. Great Shower and cooool AC ππΌ
What could be improved: We really just miss more places in the room to put clothes. Just a few hooks on the wall would help a lot.
The door to the bathroom (slide-door) got stuck all the time and basically did not close, all sounds from bathroom-slipped outβ¦ so to speak π
Breakfast was great and tasty but the breakfast room⦠so few chairs to sit so most people hade to balance the breakfast up to the rooms.
