First Impressions
Walking into Kimpton Theta New York – Times Square by IHG feels like stepping into a sophisticated refuge right in the middle of Manhattan’s most electric neighborhood. This five-star boutique property sits on 8th Avenue, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better — you’re literally steps from Times Square but far enough away that you won’t hear the street performers at 2 AM. The lobby has this modern, artistic vibe that immediately tells you this isn’t your typical corporate hotel.
Location & Neighborhood
I mean, when couples rate the location 9.2 out of 10, you know something’s working. You can walk to Broadway theaters in about three minutes, which is actually pretty amazing when you consider how much time you’d normally spend navigating the crowds. The subway access is incredibly easy too — the 50th Street station is right there, so getting to other parts of New York is straightforward. What I really appreciate is that you’re in the thick of things during the day, but the hotel itself provides this calm, luxury escape when you need to recharge.
The Room Experience
The beds here are genuinely exceptional — and I’m someone who’s pretty picky about sleep quality when traveling. There’s something about the mattresses and linens that just works, you know? The room design is sleek and thoughtful, with these floor-to-ceiling windows that give you real New York views (not just a brick wall). The bathrooms are spacious by Manhattan standards, and the little touches like the locally-sourced amenities show that Kimpton really pays attention to detail. Each room is appointed with premium furnishings and modern technology.
Dining & Amenities
The breakfast setup is solid — they do both American classics and a buffet spread that actually has some interesting options beyond the usual hotel fare. What’s really convenient is the private parking situation, which honestly feels like a luxury miracle in this part of the city. Most hotels around Times Square either don’t have parking or charge astronomical rates, so having this option right at the hotel is a game-changer if you’re driving in. The on-site restaurant has this neighborhood feel despite being in such a touristy area.
Why Guests Love It
This place strikes that perfect balance between luxury and accessibility that’s hard to find in Times Square. You get the high-end Kimpton service and sophisticated atmosphere, but you’re not paying for some stuffy, intimidating experience. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, whether that’s restaurant recommendations or helping you figure out the best way to get somewhere. It’s the kind of hotel where you can come back after a long day of sightseeing or business meetings and actually feel like you’re somewhere special, not just a place to crash. The attention to detail throughout the property is remarkable.

I'll be back.
This newly renovated property is top notch. The check in service was excellent. The rooms are clean and new. Perfect location if you're seeing Broadway shows.
What could be improved: Honestly, the only critique is that the adjoining room doors allow too much noise to come through. I could hear the (loud) people in the adjoining room much too clearly and too loudly. There needs to be some sound proofing added. Also, the rooftop lounge is lovely, but understaffed. It took way too long waiting to place a drink order.
Great stay
Great wee spot close to Times Square. Large room, comfortable bed and pillow
What could be improved: Nothing
Family trip to New York
Great location
Charlie on the bell hop desk was an absolute highlight he challenged my 14 year old to answer riddles . She loved it
What could be improved: View was obscured by very dirty windows
The wallpaper was an odd choice it looked like damp at first
Great location to Time Square, clean and comfortable
Great location to Time Square and subway, helpful and friendly staff, the room was comfortable and clean
What could be improved: No coffee and tea making facilities in the room, and no iron and ironing board either
Wonderful
Great staff....special mention to Princess
Really comfortable bed
Great shower
Top concierge
What could be improved: Not much
Excellent location and good size bedroom and bathroom
Location, sie of the vedroom and bathroom
What could be improved: Rooftop closes too early and no bed side table in one of the sides of the bed
Wonderful
The most comfortable beds and the best coffee. Even better, every morning the coffee is free between 6-9.
What could be improved: Only issue is the security deposit. It's not mentioned when you book and there's nothing in the terms and conditions but when you arrive they want to take a security deposit on a credit card. And it's not a small amount. $500 held on your card is a big dent on your spending and I don't understand why. I'm not going to wreck the room and they have my details if there's a problem. A lot of hotels do this, not just the Kimpton. It really needs to be highlighted before you book.
Nice hotel with some disappointments.
Room was comfortable bed was excellent.
Breakfast was nice.
Hotel was close to many stores and attractions.
Great day with the various vendors outside the hotel to purchase food and gifts from.
What could be improved: I didn't like the first room I was given that looked like a closet. The window was small and the view was of walls just awful, this made the room dark. I immediately went back downstairs and requested another room, I was told there weren't any other rooms available. I told the front desk I'm paying to much money to be in a closet with a wall to wall view. This was unacceptable for me. I did get placed in another room that was acceptable.
My party of 7 was turned away at the bar on the roof which was disappointing since we were in New York celebrating my Son's wedding.
We called Lyfts because the cost to use the hotels cars service cost at least $20.00 more, that was disappointing.
Very Good
I liked the location and the hotel room
What could be improved: The daytime front desk staff were not at all friendly , efficient but not at all welcoming .
A smile goes a long way !
Located close to many attractions, clean and modern facilities. Great breakfast. A bit noisy and almost too much AC (a b
Close to Times Square, restaurants and walking distance to most things we wanted to visit. Modern facilities with 16 floors, clean and good beds.
What could be improved: Rather noisy, construction work next door.
