First Impressions

Walking up to Kasa Lantern Lower East Side, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical hotel experience. It’s actually more like stepping into a well-designed apartment building that happens to cater to travelers — which, honestly, is exactly what makes it work so well in this neighborhood. The four-star property sits right in the heart of one of Manhattan’s most authentic areas, and you can feel the energy of the Lower East Side the moment you arrive.

Location & Neighborhood

I mean, the location really is something special here. You’re positioned perfectly to explore what locals consider one of New York‘s most dynamic neighborhoods — think incredible food scene, vintage shops, and that perfect mix of old-school character with modern edge. Couples absolutely love it here (and I can see why), since you can easily walk to romantic spots like the Tenement Museum or grab late-night drinks at any number of speakeasies tucked into these historic streets. The subway access is solid too, so you’re never more than 20 minutes from Midtown if you need to venture uptown.

The Space

What sets Kasa apart is how they’ve designed these spaces to feel like actual homes rather than sterile hotel rooms. Each room comes with thoughtful touches — good lighting, plenty of outlets where you actually need them, and that sort of lived-in comfort that makes you want to stick around. The kitchen setup is particularly nice if you’re staying more than a night or two; you can grab fresh ingredients from Essex Market (just a few blocks away) and actually cook something decent instead of surviving on takeout.

Practical Considerations

Now, I’ll be honest — this isn’t the kind of place where you’ll find a concierge in a fancy uniform or a restaurant downstairs. But that’s sort of the point. Kasa focuses on giving you a great base to explore from, with reliable WiFi, comfortable beds, and all the essentials done well. The self-check-in process works smoothly (though it might feel weird the first time), and the building itself is secure and well-maintained. Parking can be tricky in this area, but honestly, you don’t really need a car when you’re this well-connected to everything.

Why Guests Love It

What really makes this place special is how it captures the authentic New York experience without the tourist trap feeling. You’re staying in a neighborhood where actual New Yorkers live and work, surrounded by the kind of restaurants and bars that don’t make it into most guidebooks but probably should. The combination of modern comfort with genuine local character — plus that excellent location score they’ve earned — means you get the best of both worlds. It’s perfect for travelers who want to experience the city like a temporary resident rather than just another tourist passing through.

Quarto bem organizado com cozinha e espaço suficiente para 1 casal. Senti falta de ter abertura da janela.

What could be improved: Falta de movimentação de ar, a janela não abre.

To be clear: I am a huge Kasa fan. I stay in them all over the US and they are my preference ahead of hotels, VRBOs, and Airbnbs. They’re fantastic. I can see their customer service here (on Booking.com) is also exemplary. However, this property is way below their usual offering and standard. Sure, the location was great, but only if you love the lower east side (which I do). Beyond that, I have nothing positive to say about this Kasa, which is such a shame.

What could be improved: I booked two rooms for work. One (mine) had a kitchenette but no space, I had to move a microwave to the floor just to be able to make a coffee.

The utilities in the kitchen are all a little back to front. No staff and the online staff were unhelpful.

I had booked to stay there twice but cancelled my second booking after being there. I couldn’t bear to stay there.

My second room, for a colleague, was frankly appalling. No kitchen, no space, and - as others have said - there’s a bit of a prison cell decor going on (for both rooms). On a conference call a colleague literally said “are you in jail?!”

The photos they’ve used are rather clever as they’re not indicative at all. Rooms badly lit, walls so thin I thought someone was walking in my room at one point and, overall, the worst place I’ve stayed in New York since 1997.

Kasa - you can (and do) do so much better. This is letting down your wonderful brand.

What could be improved: The staff at this property promised to store my full suitcase as I told them I would be late for check out. They confirmed to me that they would store it. I could not contact them when I came back to pick them up. The next day they informed me that my entire full suitcase had been discarded (thrown in the rubbish) as I was late for check out even though I had told them I was going to be and they confirmed they would store them.

I asked to see the cc tv and they refused, I believe the items were stolen. There was an art work in there that they definitely did not discard and definitely stole. Don’t stay here, they were extremely unhelpful about the whole ordeal.

Worst accommodation experience I have ever had.

Great location, very nice, confortable, large for NYC, studio. Nicely decorated, very pleasant building. Very convenient system with no key. Effective communication, very pleasant and reactive responses through messages.

What could be improved: Equipped kitchenette with no glass to drink water. It took the management 4 days to inform me they could not provide a glass. No one on-site, so any issue is managed through messages. And I have had a few in addition to no glass, no electricity one morning, no WiFi another one, double expenses charged. A bit too much to be handled with no human being. Lightening system in the studio can be improved.

I had a phenomenal stay at this property. Check-in was completed virtually and I was able to access the building and my room with a unique code -- no need to carry around room keys! The room was clean and equipped with a coffee maker, coffee pods, and two complementary water bottles. Guest services were readily available to assist me via text and there is also a handy virtual front desk with info on the property and surrounding area.

Perfect location for visting manhattan. Quiet rooms easy to relax after a busy day around a busy city.

What could be improved: Their smoke sensors went off when we took a shower or a bath.

What could be improved:
