But after spending a few nights in this three-star gem tucked away on West 139th Street, I get it now. There’s something genuinely calming about the place that goes beyond just the name. The lavender theme isn’t overdone or cheesy – it’s more like subtle touches that actually work. You know what really struck me? How quiet it gets at night, which honestly surprised me given that you’re still very much in New York. Harlem has this different energy compared to Midtown, and this little spot captures that perfectly.
The location is actually pretty smart if you think about it. You’re close enough to catch the subway down to Manhattan (the 2 and 3 trains are your friends here), but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can decompress after a long day of sightseeing. I mean, there’s something to be said for being able to walk to places like Red Rooster or Sylvia’s for dinner – real neighborhood spots that most visitors never discover. The street itself is residential and tree-lined, which makes coming “home” feel different than staying in some glass tower downtown. Parking can be a bit of a hunt during the week, but honestly, that’s just New York being New York.
What really won me over was the attention to small details. The room itself felt thoughtfully put together – not fancy, but comfortable in a way that matters when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The bed was surprisingly good (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had decent water pressure, which… well, anyone who’s stayed in older New York buildings knows that’s not always guaranteed. The staff seemed to actually care about the place, which shows. I had an issue with the air conditioning on my second night, and they sorted it out quickly without making me feel like I was asking for the moon. Sometimes with smaller places like this, you worry about whether they’ll have their act together, but they do. The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you experience it – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does well. If you’re looking for that authentic New York neighborhood experience without completely breaking the bank, this place hits the mark.

I loved the colour theme and how everything was provided for you. The host made a lot of effort to make sure we had what we needed. I would recommend for any Australians heading to New York. It also has a few subway stations close by so you could easily get around
What could be improved: Nothing to do with the apartment at all but the area was a little sketchy however everyone in the building was nice.
Couples first trip to New York.
The smell was amazing. Thr way it was set up with fruit etc..
I had a great aunt who used to live in a building very similar to this one and the renovations were amazing. But there were things that I enjoyed in terms of the historical aspect of the building. It was a good location and we would like to come again for a discount even if it's a small one.
What could be improved: The Wi-Fi did not work, so it was very frustrating.
We will surely book this place again!

Great supply in the kitchen. Fresh fruits, coffee, tea and jams. Every day refilled. Spacious bathroom with shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, etc...
What could be improved: A few hooks in our room to hang for example a wet jacket or towel.
Large equipped space, sometimes impersonal but very pleasant. I can only recommend it!
When we arrived, we were really surprised by the quality of the apartment! It's a bit special to share the bathroom and toilet, but everything was very clean. The apartment has a large kitchen equipped with lots of little snacks and biscuits offered by the host, there's also a nice coffee machine perfect for morning coffees!

Really good place to stay if you want to explore Harlem, especially for the price.
The location was good, Harlem was fun. Good sized room. Fairly close to subway, within walking distance. Good places to eat and drink close by. The local people were friendly and fun. Was fairly quiet in my room.
What could be improved: It would have been nice if there was a small table and chairs in the room to eat at. The cutlery provided was plastic, it would have been better with some real metal cutlery that could be washed in the dishwasher.
Nice and accesible place at convenient localtion
Room in classical NYC apartment, shared kitchen and bathroom with three other rooms. When I arrived tired after long flight and ride from the airport, there were free snacks awaiting in the kitchen (and we available throughout the whole stay, e.g. including yogurt for breakfast and of course coffee and tea etc.)! Otherwise everything was clean and nicely decorated. Location at upper Manhattan is very convenient - two subway lines within 10 minutes walking distance plus it is close to Columbia University medical center.
What could be improved: On Saturday night there was a party on the street in front of my window going on till at least midnight, I missed earplugs for that one night. Otherwise the street is rather calm with regards to traffic.

Great facilities
Great facilities, breakfast and chocolates were a nice touch. Enjoyed the coffee machine. Made use of the in room microwave and fridge. Host was very helpful when I had questions and was very responsive via WhatsApp. Everything I needed was there.
What could be improved: Location was slightly far from Downtown Manhattan but it was not too far from a few subway stations.
