Hyatt Centric Midtown 5th Avenue New York
I'll be honest – when I first walked into Hyatt Centric Midtown 5th Avenue New York, I wasn't expecting much.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Hyatt Centric Midtown 5th Avenue New York, I wasn’t expecting much. The entrance on East 39th is pretty understated, squeezed between typical midtown buildings, but that actually works in its favor. You’re not dealing with the tourist chaos that surrounds some of the flashier hotels.
What really struck me about this four-star place is how they’ve nailed the whole “local insider” thing without trying too hard. The lobby has this modern, lived-in feel – not sterile like a lot of midtown spots. The staff actually seems to know the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. When I asked about grabbing coffee early in the morning, the front desk guy didn’t just point me to the hotel restaurant – he told me about Joe Coffee around the corner that opens at 6 AM. That’s the kind of detail that matters when you’re jet-lagged and wandering around at dawn.
The rooms are solid – clean lines, good lighting, and honestly, the beds are fantastic. I mean, you’re paying midtown prices so you expect decent quality, but the shower pressure was surprisingly great and the blackout curtains actually work (crucial when you’re facing those bright street lights). The whole vibe feels more like a boutique hotel than a chain, even though it’s clearly a Hyatt. Location-wise, you’re in that sweet spot where you can walk to Bryant Park in about five minutes, hit up the Morgan Library if you’re into that sort of thing, or just wander down to Herald Square without feeling like you need to take the subway everywhere. I actually enjoyed walking to Times Square from here – it’s close enough that it’s doable but far enough that you escape the madness when you want to.
You know what I appreciated most? The neighborhood itself feels like actual New York rather than tourist New York. There’s a great little Korean place two blocks down, some proper delis nearby, and you’re not constantly dodging street performers and costume characters. The hotel sits right in that pocket where business travelers and locals actually intersect, which gives the whole area a different energy. Sure, you’ll still hear sirens and street noise – it’s midtown Manhattan, not a spa retreat – but it’s manageable and honestly, kind of part of the experience. Check-in was smooth, they held my bags without any fuss, and the elevators are fast enough that you’re not standing there forever with a bunch of tired travelers. It’s not the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but it gets the important stuff right and doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not.

Very Good
The location was good. The staff were great and accommodating.
What could be improved: The bathroom was small and no shelves in the shower. Also, no hooks in the bathroom.
An exceptional hotel in midtown manhattan
The location and ease of access to NYC.
What could be improved: Nothing really
average. definitely not an 8
the location was convenient.
What could be improved: the breakfast was a joke. it would be more honest to say that you do not have breakfast.
Good location but not good value.
The location was great but it was pricey for the room size and amenities.
What could be improved: The room was tiny and the walls thin. When the neighbors slammed their door (often) our whole room shook.
Very Good
What could be improved: The water in the room is paid!!
Very enjoyable, I would stay here again.
Great location, friendly staff, breakfast was excellent.
What could be improved: Nothing.
Great Value for your stay in NYC

Very Good
The staff were extremely helpful when we wanted to change rooms. If you like a bright room, because of the dark decor, book a city view room otherwise can be very dark. The cold drinking water to refill bottles in the foyer was a very welcome touch.
What could be improved: Nothing really.
