I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Kixby on 35th Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star boutique spot. The entrance is pretty understated, which I actually love because it means you’re not dealing with tour groups clogging up the lobby every morning. But once you step inside, there’s this really cool industrial-chic vibe going on that feels authentically New York without trying too hard.
The thing that struck me most was how the staff actually seemed to care – and I mean genuinely care, not that scripted hotel politeness you get at some places. When I mentioned I was meeting someone at the High Line the next day, the front desk guy gave me this whole spiel about the best entrance to use and which sections get crowded when. You know what I mean? That kind of local insight you can’t Google. The rooms themselves are smart – they’re not huge (it’s Manhattan, so no surprises there), but whoever designed them really thought about how people actually use hotel rooms. The lighting is fantastic, which sounds minor until you’re trying to get ready for dinner and can actually see what you’re doing. Plus, the beds are legitimately comfortable, not just piled high with pillows to look impressive on Instagram.
Location-wise, you’re right in that sweet spot between Herald Square and the Empire State Building, but tucked onto a side street so you don’t get the full chaos of Broadway tourism. I walked to Madison Square Garden in maybe eight minutes, and Penn Station is close enough that you could practically roll your suitcase there – super handy if you’re catching an Amtrak or heading out to the airports. The neighborhood has that mix of actual New Yorkers grabbing coffee and visitors figuring out their subway cards, which feels more real than some of the more touristy pockets. Honestly, I’ve stayed at places that cost twice as much and felt way more generic. Kixby has this relaxed confidence about it – like it knows it’s good without needing to show off. The kind of place where you’d actually want to hang out in the lobby with a drink, and where the elevator doesn’t take forever because they didn’t prioritize flashy design over basic functionality.

Always perfect!
I like everything about this hotel. Location, rooms, staff.
What could be improved: Wish they had a continental breakfast.
Great stay, thank you!
Everything was great, friendly and helpful employees, lovely decor, great space in room and bathroom, tasty food in the attached restaurant. Really good location with access to main tourist sites and the subway
Would highly recommend the Kixby for a comfortable, stress-free break in New York, it would certainly be our first choic
Great, central location with so much on the doorstep. Love the “boutique” feel of the hotel too. All staff are super-friendly and very professional. Nothing is too much trouble. Bed was really comfortable and air conditioning very efficient and individually controlled. Loved the built in fridge and safe too.
What could be improved: Knew exactly what we were coming to as we were returning visitors but the trade off for the location is the noise from the street overnight. Would advise ear plugs to deaden to sound a bit. Would have liked to have had the option to book a breakfast package instead of booking in every single morning. Breakfast suited us just fine but maybe a wider selection of cereals/ cheeses/ cold meat could have been offered just to change it up a bit.
Wonderful
Location
What could be improved: Bar area very dark & uninviting.
Fabulous Honeymoon at the Kixby
This was our honeymoon and the extra little touches of a welcome/congratulations card with sparkling wine and chocolates, made us feel really special. The whole atmosphere of this beautiful building in such a unique location made our trip magical and the staff were fantastic and couldnt do enough for you. The little touches like a dedicated room with flavoured water machines and tea and coffee just means that they 100%consider their guests
What could be improved: Absolutely nothing
Very Good
Great location, reception staff really friendly and helpful. Very clean and comfortable.
What could be improved: Extra hidden cost of water bottles & only limited snacks/fruit and not replenished.
Excellent hotel with great facilities, very helpful staff and a great location

Good location.
Good location and friendly staff.
What could be improved: The view. And the cleaning was a lit late in the aternoon.
Definitely one to return to.
From check in to check out…..faultless…..super friendly, helpful, polite staff. Location absolutely perfect. The adjoining Black Tap was excellent…..good menu & drinks just next door…..after a long day exploring it was perfect.
Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. 10/10
An excellent boutique hotel in the heart of Manhattan.
Very spacious and comfortable room. Spotlessly clean. The Black Tap craft beer & burger restaurant attached to the hotel was very good. Roof top terrace gives spectacular views of the Empire State Building. Great location. The staff were excellent. Professional, friendly and very helpful.
What could be improved: My room was on 3rd floor overlooking 35th Street therefore noise was an issue (but this is NYC!)as windows were not sound proof. Could also have done with better blinds. Too much light from buildings opposite.
