First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Elysee by Library Hotel Collection feels like stepping into someone’s well-appointed private club rather than a typical Midtown hotel. The intimate lobby immediately sets this four-star property apart from the corporate giants that dominate this part of Manhattan — there’s something refreshingly personal about the scale here. You’re on East 54th Street, which honestly is one of those perfect New York addresses that puts you right in the thick of things without the chaos of Times Square breathing down your neck.
Location & Neighborhood
I mean, you really can’t ask for a better spot in Midtown East. You’re literally a few blocks from Fifth Avenue shopping, the Museum of Modern Art is practically around the corner, and Central Park is an easy walk when you need to escape the concrete. What I love about this particular stretch is that it feels more residential than touristy — you’ll see actual New Yorkers going about their day, not just people clutching guidebooks. The subway access is solid too, with the E and M trains at Lexington-53rd just a block away, though honestly, you’ll probably end up walking to most places from here.
The Rooms
The rooms at Hotel Elysee by Library Hotel Collection have this cozy, almost European feel that’s pretty rare in Manhattan hotels. They’re not huge — this is New York, after all — but they’re thoughtfully designed with rich fabrics and warm lighting that makes you actually want to spend time in your room. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms, while compact, have everything you need including decent water pressure. What really struck me was the attention to detail in the furnishings — it feels curated rather than ordered from a hotel supply catalog.
Dining & Social Spaces
The Club Room is where this place really shines, and it’s probably why couples rate it so highly for romantic getaways. It’s this intimate space where they serve complimentary continental breakfast in the morning and wine and cheese in the evening — sort of like having your own private salon. The atmosphere encourages conversation, whether you’re with someone special or just want to chat with fellow travelers. There’s also Monkey Bar, the hotel’s restaurant, which has this old-school New York vibe that locals actually frequent (always a good sign).
Why Guests Love It
You know what sets this place apart? It’s the kind of hotel that remembers you’re a person, not just a room number. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, and the intimate size means they can actually deliver on that promise. Recent guests consistently rave about the location — and they’re right to, because you’re positioned perfectly to explore Manhattan without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist trap. It’s refined and upscale without being stuffy, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to experience the real New York.
To book hotel in New York during the iconic Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration, visitors should make reservations well in advance as this global metropolis attracts millions of tourists from around the world.

A welcoming hotel in a great midtown location.
The location is excellent, and the lounge room with complimentary snacks and continental breakfast was a real plus.
The old world feel and generous sized rooms with decent closet and draw space was very welcomed.
The staff were very helpful. Unfortunately, we couldn't get a table at the Monkey Bar. You need to book in advance. It's very popular!
What could be improved: The bathroom was a bit small, but I think this is typical of New York hotel rooms.
Another amazing stay with an old friend
Our favorite hotel in NYC. Old world charm. Excellent customer service. Clean, clean, clean
Charming little hotel. Enjoyed the concierge lounge with free dinks and snacks.

A touch of Paris in New York
The location was excellent and loved the character of the hotel. It felt like being in Paris
What could be improved: We would have liked some muesli and fruit to go with the yoghurt at breakfast. Glasses for the juice and water rather than cardboard
comfortable
Very quiet, nice room layout with small foyer
What could be improved: breakfast could have been upscaled a bit
perfect.
great location, staff and of course the monkee bar.
What could be improved: a bit dated...could use a refresh.
This hotel offers comfortable, caring surroundings in a prime location at a reasonable price.
The hotel was in a perfect location, with delightful staff. We enjoyed visiting the second-floor lounge. It was like having a big living room. The hotel’s partnership with an outstanding fitness center was another plus.
What could be improved: The decor seemed a bit outdated, but the old-fashioned style gave it a relaxed feeling.
