citizenM New York Times Square
I'll be honest – when I first walked into citizenM New York Times Square, I wasn't sure what to expect from the name alone.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into citizenM New York Times Square, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the name alone. But this four-star spot on 50th Street completely changed my perspective on what a modern hotel can be. The lobby hits you immediately with this sleek, almost futuristic vibe that somehow doesn’t feel cold or sterile. There’s this massive digital art wall that cycles through different pieces, and honestly, I found myself just standing there watching it change while other guests buzzed around with their coffee.
The location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things – you’re literally steps from all the Times Square chaos, but here’s the thing most people don’t realize: 50th Street itself is actually quieter than you’d think. I mean, you’re still in New York, so there’s street noise, but it’s not the full-blown sensory overload of being right on Broadway. The subway access is ridiculously easy too – the 50th Street station is basically around the corner, which saved me so much time getting around the city. What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood. When I asked about a decent breakfast spot that wasn’t a tourist trap, the front desk guy immediately pointed me toward this little corner deli that locals actually use.
The rooms are compact but incredibly well-designed – everything has a purpose, and nothing feels wasted. The bed is one of those situations where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed, and the blackout curtains actually work (crucial when you’re dealing with all that neon from outside). The bathroom is small, sure, but the rain shower makes up for it. I actually found myself looking forward to unwinding there after long days of walking around. The tech setup impressed me too – the tablet that controls everything from lights to room service felt intuitive rather than gimmicky, though I’ll admit it took me a minute to figure out the TV system. You know what really stood out? The common areas stay lively without being loud. There’s this rooftop space that gives you solid city views, and even during busy evening hours, conversations didn’t echo or feel overwhelming. The whole place has this energy that matches the city itself – bustling but somehow organized, modern but not trying too hard to be cool. For the quality and location, especially with that 8.8 rating reflecting real guest experiences, it’s become my go-to recommendation when friends ask where to stay in the Theater District.

Highly recommended, for the friendly team and great location
Friendly team, great location, well designed space, room as well as foyer area
What could be improved: In compared to last visit. Small items as beakers for tooth brushes is missing.
Fr memory, there is a desk chair available, to make it easier when working on desk. That is missing as well
Best possible location
The location is perfect! Close to everywhere. Good subway links nearby. 5 min walk to Times Square. Right at the heart of the theatre district with Wicked on one side of the hotel, The Book of Mormon at the other and Mamma Mia at the end of the street. Lovely restaurants and cafes nearby
What could be improved: The room is very small for 2 people but I suppose that is Manhattan! The bed was really comfortable. "City view" was a bit of an exaggeration as our room looked out onto roof tops. Not a biggie
Perfect for an 18 year old on a solo trip to NYC.
Our 18 year old daughter stayed at the hotel on a solo trip to NY. citizenM had everything she needed and nothing she didn’t. She told us the bed was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Perfect location, great staff and good food. we had a fantastic New York stay!
The location is amazing. You step outside and you are basically surrounded by New York’s greatest hits: Madison Square Garden, Broadway theaters, Times Square, Central Park and Rockefeller Center. The “smart” room was actually pretty awesome, complete with mood lighting that made me feel like I was living inside a sci-fi movie. Breakfast was really good, and the staff? Genuinely wonderful people, always polite and smiling like they actually enjoy seeing us. Pro tip: Carnegie Diner nearby is also a fantastic breakfast spot, huge portions and great prices.
What could be improved: Some days they just skipped room cleaning. A quick call to the lobby fixed it, but it would be nice if cleaning had some sort of predictable schedule so you don’t come back to a surprise towel art project made by yesterday’s self. Only two elevators worked during our stay, which in Manhattan basically means elevator traffic jams, and the gym was closed for a makeover.
2nd stay here. Always nice. Great price and staff
The location is excellent. Near time square, theaters, restaurants, and the subways. The subway lines near the hotel, get you to major attractions without a transfer. The roof top bar is a great place to end an evening. They lobby bar is nice and there is a nice breakfast available.
What could be improved: Waiting on elevators can be long. They are working on one this trip.
Great location, super friendly staff
The location was terrific, you couldn't want to be any nearer Times Square. The staff were super helpful and friendly, and the check-in procedure was easy and fast. We appreciated the ironing room and the fact that you could get something to eat or drink pretty much 24 hours a day. The last night we treated ourselves to a few drinks on the rooftop bar, and it was well worth it—probably a highlight of the stay. We chose this hotel because it has a reputation for being LGBTQ+ friendly, and it absolutely was. Although the room was relatively small, the bed was absolutely huge, and very comfortable. With jet lag, we slept 12 hours two nights running without any problem!
What could be improved: It's a small gripe, but it's a bit weird having the bed right up against the window, along the length of the wall. It was very comfortable, clean and fine, it's just that you had to climb on to the bed to get into it if you were on the window side, and it would have been nice to get near to the window to look out properly as well. But it's not a deal-breaker, though in truth the room in reality felt quite a bit smaller to how it looked in the pictures.
Wonderful
Location is great, staff was great and beds comfortable.
Fun clean perfect room
The atmosphere was excellent. Very friendly staff.
What could be improved: N/a
Everything was great! Would recommend and go back again!
The room was a lot bigger than expected and we loved the smart features to control the room. And the location to everything; Times Square, Central Park, Uses, Subway stations, broadway shows, everything was perfect!
What could be improved: Everything was great!
Convient location to subway and Times Square
Good location and clean
What could be improved: Loud, must bring ear plugs to sleep. Front desk staff could have been nicer and more accommodating. Stated they would bring ear plugs to our room and then called us to say we need to return to lobby to get. Small things like that.
