When I asked about dinner recommendations, the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a generic list – he actually asked what I was in the mood for and sent me to this little Italian place on Amsterdam Avenue that I never would have found otherwise. The hotel gets busy during museum exhibition openings and holiday seasons (I learned this the hard way trying to book last minute in December), but even when it’s packed, there’s something refreshingly low-key about the whole operation. Sure, you’ll hear some street noise from Broadway – it’s New York, after all – but the double-paned windows do their job, and honestly, I kind of liked falling asleep to the gentle hum of the city.
