Look, I'll be honest – when I first walked up to the Holiday Inn Express - Wall Street by IHG on Water Street, I wasn't expecting much.

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Holiday Inn Express – Wall Street by IHG on Water Street, I wasn’t expecting much. I mean, it’s tucked into this narrow stretch between the Financial District’s towering glass buildings, and from the outside it just looks like another corporate hotel. But you know what? Sometimes those assumptions are completely wrong.

The thing about this three-star place is that it actually gets the basics really, really right. The lobby’s small but efficient – no grand marble nonsense, just clean lines and a staff that seems to genuinely know the neighborhood. And honestly, that matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to figure out how to get to Brooklyn Bridge at 6 AM or where to grab decent coffee that isn’t Starbucks. The front desk guy (I think his name was Marcus?) literally drew me a little map showing the shortcut through the narrow streets to avoid the tourist crowds at South Street Seaport. That’s the kind of local insight you don’t get from reading TripAdvisor reviews.

The rooms are what I’d call “smart small” – they’ve clearly thought about how to maximize every square foot without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a closet. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the shower has proper water pressure, which is honestly a minor miracle in New York. What really surprised me was how quiet it gets at night. You’d think being right in the heart of the financial district would mean constant noise, but Water Street sort of tucks away from the main traffic flow, so you’re not dealing with sirens and honking until 3 AM. Well, except on weekends when people are bar hopping in Stone Street – but that’s more like distant party sounds than city chaos.

Here’s what I really appreciate though – the location is genuinely useful, not just “convenient” in that vague way hotels always claim. You’re literally a five-minute walk to the Staten Island Ferry (free harbor views, by the way), the subway entrance at Whitehall-South Ferry is right there, and you can walk to Brooklyn Bridge or the 9/11 Memorial without breaking a sweat. Plus, and this might sound weird, but there’s something kind of cool about being in this historic part of the city after all the office workers go home. The old cobblestone streets get this almost eerie quiet that feels totally different from midtown Manhattan. The breakfast is standard Holiday Inn Express fare – nothing fancy but it’ll definitely fuel you for a day of walking around the city. And parking? Well, it’s expensive (this is NYC after all), but the garage they partner with is literally across the street, which beats circling blocks looking for street parking. Trust me on that one.

Would stay again!

The bed was comfy & the shower head was nice. The free breakfast was warm & different daily.

What could be improved: If you came to breakfast an hour before closing they ran out of things. There wasn't enough lighting.

Great value for money, good location.

Room was small but for the chain/price it was to be expected.
Reception staff Mary and Destiny were great and super helpful.
Bed was extremely comfortable
Breakfast was standard and enough for everyone. Coffee is great and available at reception 24hrs (as well as hot water and Teas).
Location was good, not too busy as being uptown. Subway stations within 5-10 minutes walk.
Very close to famous Wall Street and the 'BULL'
Has good restaurants within walking distance and a great bagel bakery and Starbucks across the road.

What could be improved: (Not hotel fault but...) if you're having a car with you, be aware parking charges are very high, up to 75USD on weekends for an overnight parking session.
