Pod Times Square
I'll be honest – when I first heard about Pod Times Square, I was skeptical about the whole "pod" concept.
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Pod Times Square, I was skeptical about the whole “pod” concept. But after staying here a few times over the years, I’ve actually become a bit of a convert. This three-star spot on West 42nd Street sits right in Hell’s Kitchen, which means you’re close enough to the Times Square madness when you want it, but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night.
The rooms are small – I mean, really small – but they’re designed so cleverly that it doesn’t feel cramped. Everything has a purpose, and honestly, the bunk bed setup is kind of fun even as an adult. The bathrooms are these sleek, almost spaceship-like pods that somehow fit a shower, toilet, and sink into what feels like a phone booth. It sounds weird, but it works. What I really appreciate is how quiet the rooms are despite being in New York. The windows actually block out most of the street noise, which is no small feat when you’re basically in the heart of Manhattan.
The lobby area downstairs has this cool, modern vibe with plenty of space to hang out if your room starts feeling too cozy. There’s usually a mix of international travelers and young professionals grabbing coffee or working on laptops. The staff here genuinely seems to know what they’re doing – check-in is smooth, they’re helpful with restaurant recommendations, and they don’t act like you’re bothering them when you have questions. You know what really sold me on this place though? The location. You can walk to pretty much everything – Hell’s Kitchen has some fantastic restaurants that tourists never find, you’re a quick stroll to Central Park, and the subway access is ridiculous. The Port Authority is right there, which sounds sketchy but is actually super convenient for airport buses and getting around the city. Plus, you’re surrounded by all these great little spots that locals actually go to, not just tourist traps. I’ve found some of my favorite New York restaurants just wandering around this neighborhood after staying here.
