First Impressions

Walking into Holiday Inn Express – Wall Street, an IHG Hotel feels like stepping into a surprisingly polished business hub rather than your typical chain hotel. The lobby’s clean lines and modern touches immediately signal that this three-star property takes itself seriously — which makes sense given its prime Financial District location. You know what struck me most? The staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood well, offering genuine recommendations rather than just pointing toward Times Square like so many other places do.

Location That Actually Matters

Here’s the thing about staying on Water Street — you’re literally in the heart of where New York began, and honestly, most tourists completely miss this area. The hotel sits just blocks from Stone Street’s cobblestone restaurants and South Street Seaport, but more importantly, you can walk to the 9/11 Memorial in about ten minutes. The subway connections are fantastic too; the R and W trains at Whitehall-South Ferry are right there, plus you’ve got multiple lines within a few blocks. I mean, couples clearly get it — they’re rating this location a solid 9.0, and after spending time here, I totally understand why.

The Room Experience

The room itself won’t win any design awards, but it’s exactly what you need after a long day exploring the city. Everything feels fresh and well-maintained — the beds are actually comfortable (not always a given with chain hotels), and the bathrooms are compact but functional. What I appreciated most was the attention to business traveler needs: plenty of outlets, decent desk space, and WiFi that actually works consistently. The windows offer glimpses of the surrounding historic buildings, though don’t expect sweeping harbor views at this price point.

Morning Fuel

The complimentary breakfast here is honestly better than it has any right to be. They’ve got both continental and buffet options, which basically means you can grab something quick or actually sit down for a proper meal. The coffee’s decent — not artisanal by any means, but it’ll get you going. I found myself eating here most mornings simply because venturing out for breakfast in the Financial District can be surprisingly limited on weekends, when many of the area’s business-focused spots are closed.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t a boutique hotel with Instagram-worthy amenities, but it delivers exactly what it promises. The location is genuinely exceptional — you’re staying in one of Manhattan’s most historic neighborhoods without paying Midtown prices. The service feels personal rather than corporate, and there’s something refreshing about being in a part of the city where you’ll encounter more locals heading to work than tourists taking selfies. If you want to experience New York beyond the typical tourist trail while still having easy access to everything else, this place actually makes a lot of sense.

Its just ok. Anything exceptional about our stay. The breakfast did not have much diversity but it was not bad either. We asked the hotel staff to book a shuttle to the airport and they gave us the wrong price, which caused a misunderstanding with the driver.
