Hilton New York Times Square

I'll be honest – when I first walked into Hilton New York Times Square, I was bracing myself for another generic midtown tourist trap.

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Hilton New York Times Square, I was bracing myself for another generic midtown tourist trap. But you know what? This place actually surprised me. The lobby hits you with this unexpected warmth, nothing like those sterile chain hotel vibes you’d expect right in the heart of the chaos. I mean, you’re literally steps from the TKTS stairs and all that Times Square madness, but somehow they’ve managed to create this little bubble of calm inside.

The four-star rating feels about right – it’s polished without being pretentious. What really struck me was how the staff seemed to genuinely get that most guests are dealing with sensory overload from being in New York. The concierge didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map; she actually marked up specific subway entrances that would save me from the worst of the crowds (the R/W at 49th is your friend, trust me). The rooms are… well, they’re New York hotel rooms, so don’t expect sprawling space, but they’re thoughtfully designed. I loved that they actually have blackout curtains that work – crucial when you’re sleeping above the city that never sleeps. The beds are legitimately comfortable, which honestly can be hit or miss even at nice hotels.

Here’s what nobody tells you though: the elevator situation during peak times is a bit of a nightmare, especially if you’re staying above the 20th floor. I learned to take the stairs down a few flights during busy periods. But the trade-off is worth it because you’re genuinely in the center of everything. I could walk to Bryant Park in five minutes, catch a show without dealing with transportation, and – this was key for me – easily hop on the subway to anywhere else I wanted to explore. The noise level wasn’t as bad as I expected either; yes, you’ll hear the city, but it’s more of a distant hum than the honking chaos you might imagine. Actually, I kind of enjoyed falling asleep to those muted New York sounds. The hotel restaurant is decent for a quick bite, though honestly, with hundreds of incredible food options within a few blocks, I’d venture out. Room service was surprisingly fast when I did order it, probably because they know their guests are often rushing between activities. If you’re visiting during the holidays when Times Square turns into absolute madness, just know that getting in and out of the hotel requires a bit of patience, but the location means you’re right where you want to be anyway.

Good after the initial problems but would not trust to book again

Good location, good facilities, nice bar area and large rooms

What could be improved: When we arrived they had cancelled our booking. I selected pay on arrival when I booked but they tried to take the money weeks before we arrived, because the money wasn’t available in my account at the time my card rejected it and they just cancelled our booking but we weren’t made aware as it still showed as active in my booking.com account. Customer service agreed they shouldn’t have tried to take payment before but when we got to the hotel they said no this isn’t their policy and they always take payment before! We then had to re-book through the Hilton website and pay more money and then I had to spend ages on the phone to booking.com trying to make sure I didn’t get charged from them as well as it had gone past the free cancellation stage. After a whole day of travelling and being on crutches myself this was a big anti climax.

A hotel right at the core of the big apple

Really central location with a great view and amazingly quiet considering the prime location right in the heart of Times Square.

Very Good

The location is great, staff were very friendly. We didn't have any trouble with the electronics in the room. The elevator worked the entire time we were there. Parking was $90 dollars a day, but that was added in the hotel info when we booked, so no surprise. The lobby was nice for hanging out. Wifi in the room is extra, but the lobby has free access. The store in the lobby is convenient but pricey. There's a Target across the street from the hotel. We enjoyed our stay and would stay at this hotel again. And just a suggestion after wandering the city, do not book at the Days inn near this hotel, I was so glad after we walked by. I almost booked there and was glad we didn't.

What could be improved: The cost for parking. The room is a little dated but efficient. Our housekeeper also entered the room after we declined services since we'd be staying more than a day and the room wasn't messy. It's not a big deal, but it made us feel less comfortable.

Great location, big clean room with average facilities. The staff is not helpful. The money came out from my bank is more than the final bill, not sure why.
