Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into the Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star chain hotel smack in the middle of tourist central. But you know what? This place actually gets it right in ways that matter. The lobby’s got this clean, modern vibe without trying too hard, and the staff behind the front desk seemed genuinely happy to help rather than just going through the motions. I mean, finding a hotel in this part of New York where people actually smile at you is… well, it’s not nothing.
The location is honestly pretty brilliant if you’re planning to hit the big attractions. You’re literally a three-minute walk to Penn Station – I timed it because I’m weird like that – which means you can dump your bags and be on a train to anywhere in about ten minutes. Madison Square Garden is right there (obviously), and if you’re into the whole Times Square scene, it’s just a few blocks north. But here’s the thing locals know: being on 31st Street means you’re close enough to everything touristy but far enough south that you don’t have to deal with the absolute chaos of the Theater District crowds every time you want to grab coffee. The neighborhood has this sort of business-district energy during the day, then quiets down at night, which actually helped me sleep better than I expected.
What really surprised me was how they’ve managed the practical stuff. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Manhattan, after all – but they’re smart about storage and the beds are genuinely comfortable. I stayed on the seventh floor and barely heard any street noise, which is honestly miraculous given how close you are to Penn Station and all that train traffic. The free breakfast is typical Hampton Inn fare, nothing fancy, but the coffee’s decent and they keep everything stocked even during the morning rush. Oh, and if you’re driving – don’t, but if you must – there’s a parking garage literally next door that they can validate, though you’ll still pay through the nose because, again, Manhattan. The elevator situation can get a bit crowded during Rangers or Knicks game nights (learned that the hard way), but the staff actually warned me about it during check-in, which I appreciated. It’s one of those places that doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not, but does what it promises really well.
Hotels near me in New York offer convenient access to iconic landmarks, where guests can easily walk to Empire State Building, Central Park, and world-renowned restaurants in diverse neighborhoods.

Location, and cleanliness of the rooms and the friendly helpful staff
What could be improved: Lack of food and tables for breakfast
Wonderful
The Manager was very helpful and seems to inspire his team to act likewise. I knew the hotel and I try to stay with Hampton every trip. I love the breakfast and the hotel environment.
What could be improved: On that particular day there was no biscuit available in the breakfast.
Central location
Great location, very walkable to Penn station, Times Square & Chelsea area.
The building & area felt safe & the staff were very welcoming.
What could be improved: Small and basic rooms, great for 1-2 nights.
Good for a quick stay
The location is perfect - next to the Penn station, walking distance to broadway, time square and other objects.
What could be improved: If you come from Europe - be prepared that there are no vegetables at breakfast.
Elevator could take minutes to come.
As above
Clean comfortable and good value for the money.
What could be improved: Nothing
Bit expensive given the poor breakfast and small room.
Location.
What could be improved: Breakfast was poorly served.
Very Good
location was great for our purposes.
What could be improved: the only reason for not all excellent is that the comforter smelled. The sheets and cover were OK, but comforter stunk and needed washing.
Great location for what we wanted to see.
Location, breakfast, staff.
What could be improved: Price
Excellent location and friendly staff. Should not use paper plates as not environmentally friendly.
Great location. Friendly staff.
What could be improved: Overpriced. Paper plates not environmentally friendly as just thrown away.
