Arthouse Hotel
Look, I'll be honest – when I first walked up to the Arthouse Hotel on Broadway, I wasn't sure what to expect from the name.
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Arthouse Hotel on Broadway, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the name. But you know what? This four-star spot actually lives up to its artsy moniker, and I mean that in the best possible way. The lobby hits you with this curated gallery vibe that doesn’t feel pretentious – more like wandering into a friend’s really well-designed apartment if your friend happened to have excellent taste and a serious art collection.
The Upper West Side location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying in actual New York rather than tourist central. You’re right in the thick of residential Broadway where locals are grabbing coffee and walking their dogs, but you can still hop on the subway at 79th Street and be in Midtown in fifteen minutes. I loved that morning walk to Zabar’s for bagels – it’s literally just a few blocks north and feels like a proper New York ritual. The rooms themselves are surprisingly spacious for Manhattan (and I’ve stayed in my share of shoebox hotels here), with these floor-to-ceiling windows that actually open, which is rarer than you’d think. The design walks this nice line between boutique hotel chic and actually comfortable – the beds are legitimately good, and the lighting doesn’t make you look like a zombie, which honestly matters more than you realize until you’re trying to get ready for dinner.
What really won me over, though, were the details that show someone was actually thinking about the guest experience. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood – when I asked about a good spot for a quiet drink, the front desk guy didn’t just point me to the hotel bar but recommended this little wine place on Amsterdam Avenue that ended up being exactly what I was looking for. The soundproofing is solid too, which matters when you’re right on Broadway with all the city noise. I mean, you’ll still hear sirens occasionally because it’s New York, but you’re not getting every conversation from the sidewalk. One small thing that bugged me was the elevator situation during busy checkout times – there’s really just one main elevator and it can get a bit slow when everyone’s trying to leave at once. But honestly, that’s pretty minor when you consider you’re getting this level of character and comfort in Manhattan without paying some of those ridiculous Midtown prices. If you’re looking for a place that feels connected to the real rhythm of the city rather than just another generic hotel room, this place gets it right.

Guest Reviews
Great location, clean rooms in ok condition
Basic rooms but very clean
What could be improved: A bit rough around the edges
Very nice hotel in a good safe area and convenient location staff extremely helpful and friendly
Safe area and liked a boutique hotel. Convenient for my purpose
What could be improved: One of the lifts wasn’t working. Sometimes not enough creamer or tea left and I was a solo traveller and out most of the day so didn’t need much
Wonderful
The location.
What could be improved: I would have liked a mini cooler fridge in the room to have more chilled water available.
Glad I was there.
Location, clean
What could be improved: Getting luggage up and down steps at entrance. Bellhops very nice and helpfull when around.
Breakfast coffee not refillable
Great location. Lots of restaurants. Rooms comfortable and up to date, if small.
We had multiple rooms (studio terrace for us, superior king for children). This review is appearing on the King room, but I am rating the studio with terrace - booking was unclear which we were on). We took a studio with terrace. With lovely weather it was wonderful to sit out on the terrace for morning coffee and in the evening. Some are kings with balcony which is the same - we needed terrace so our children could fit too. I also worked one of the days, in our room, using the desk. The studio with terrace has more "room space" which was helpful for that. king with balcony might have been more cramped and harder to work at the desk.
pricing on booking was excellent discount, but it is expensive. Of course, it is new york.
What could be improved: limited counter space in the room. needed to pull a chair in from the terrace to put the coffee station on so would have room to work on the desk.
Perfect spot to visit the park and Natural History Museum
The two beds and crib and living area were far above what I usually find in Manhattan
What could be improved: A mini fridge would have made the room perfect, especially for traveling with children.
The employees, Carlos in particular, were great! Always had fast answers and solutions to any issues had. Great stay ove
Very nice rooms and amenities
What could be improved: Construction outside my window the first 2 nights, but then upgraded for my final night, to a room with a terrace
Wonderful stay. Great location. Nice neighborhood!
Room was bigger than we expected. Great to have living area separate from bedroom. Location is great - close to Central park, subway station and the neighborhood was good - good places to eat, Grocery shopping and local shops. Bed is very comfort and clean. Bathroom is clean and good size. Staffs are friendly.
What could be improved: Only one reception wasn't quite friendly but help as duty. Lifts are a bit slow.
Wonderful
Staff very friendly and accommodating. Great location
What could be improved: Room faces a brick wall. I’ve stayed before on similar booking and received different type room. Also elevators tske a long time
It was excellent
Well laid out bright rooms that were very quiet
What could be improved: Elevators slow and often cramped
