Best Western Premier Herald Square
I'll be honest – when I first walked into Best Western Premier Herald Square, I wasn't expecting much from a three-star place right in the thick of Manhattan's chaos.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Best Western Premier Herald Square, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place right in the thick of Manhattan’s chaos. But you know what? This little gem on 36th Street actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this sort of boutique hotel vibe that feels way more upscale than the price point suggests, and the staff behind the front desk seemed genuinely happy to see guests rather than just going through the motions.
What really sold me on this place was the location – I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Herald Square and all that Macy’s madness, but somehow the hotel manages to feel like a quiet refuge once you’re inside. The rooms are smaller than what you’d get in suburbia (this is New York, after all), but they’re smartly designed with enough space to actually unpack your suitcase without living out of it for your entire stay. The beds are surprisingly comfortable too – I’m talking about that sweet spot where the mattress isn’t too soft but doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping on concrete either. And honestly, the soundproofing is pretty decent considering you’re surrounded by one of the busiest intersections in the city. I could hear the occasional siren, but nothing that kept me awake at night.
Here’s what I really appreciated: the little details that show someone actually thought about the guest experience. There’s decent water pressure in the shower (not always a given in older Manhattan buildings), the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the entire hotel, and they’ve got this 24-hour fitness center that’s small but functional if you need to burn off all that pizza and bagel consumption. The breakfast situation is continental style – nothing fancy, but the coffee’s strong and there are fresh pastries that’ll get you going before you hit the streets. Speaking of streets, you’re within walking distance of the Empire State Building, Penn Station, and basically every subway line you could need. I found myself using the hotel as a perfect home base for exploring different neighborhoods without feeling like I was stuck way uptown or buried in some remote corner of Brooklyn. It’s one of those places where the value really shows – you’re getting a clean, comfortable stay with genuine New York character without paying those ridiculous Times Square hotel rates that make your credit card weep.

Location
It was fine
Staff was really helpful and location was excellent.
What could be improved: Room size too small and no refrigerator or Microwave in the room. No hotel parking
BWP Herald Square is an excellent hotel. It is clean, comfortable, and safe - and inexpensive. I would stay there again
Great location. While the room was small, it was efficiently designed. I will say it was nicely done by NTC standards
What could be improved: The entrance is awkward. It needs to be renovated to be more inviting.
Great location
Very well located in the center of Manhattan. Despite being in the center, not noisy.
What could be improved: Rooms are a bit too narrow but still acceptable.
Very Good
The room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. The location is good (about 10 minutes walk from a subway station) and the staff were very nice and helpful.
What could be improved: The room was small.
Great location small room.
The closeness to Time Square and the subway entrances.
What could be improved: The room was very small.
Small room but worked for the one night we stayed.
The location was great, less than 10 minute walk from Madison square garden, and 20 minute walk from the flat iron building. Plenty of bars and restaurants right outside the hotel.
What could be improved: The onsite bar was closed.
Great location - central and convenient
staff were amazing and lovely; fabulous location
What could be improved: room was small; quite dark and lack of central light meant that lot of lights needed to be on
