Best Western Premier Empire State Hotel
You know what caught me off guard about the Best Western Premier Empire State Hotel?
You know what caught me off guard about the Best Western Premier Empire State Hotel? It’s actually tucked into this really interesting pocket of New York called NoMad – which I honestly had to look up the first time I heard it (turns out it’s North of Madison Square Park, who knew). But here’s the thing – being on East 30th Street puts you right in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to Midtown’s chaos but far enough away that you can actually think straight.
I mean, sure, it’s a three-star place, so don’t expect marble everything, but the rooms are surprisingly solid. The beds are actually comfortable – not just hotel-comfortable, but like, you might sleep past your alarm comfortable. And the bathrooms, while compact (this is Manhattan, after all), are clean and modern with decent water pressure, which honestly matters more than you’d think after walking around the city all day. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, especially considering you’re basically in the heart of everything. The double-paned windows do their job, and 30th Street isn’t one of those crazy busy avenues that never sleeps.
The lobby has this sort of boutique hotel vibe going on – not stuffy corporate, but not trying too hard to be hip either. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and the front desk folks actually knew the neighborhood well enough to give decent restaurant recommendations (they steered me toward this little Korean place on 32nd that was incredible). Here’s what’s really convenient though – you’re literally a five-minute walk to Herald Square and the 28th Street subway stations, which connect you to basically everywhere. Penn Station is close enough that you could walk with luggage if you’re not hauling massive suitcases, and Madison Square Garden is right there too. I walked to the High Line in about fifteen minutes, and Bryant Park was maybe ten minutes north. The Empire State Building? Well, it’s literally looming over you – you can see it perfectly from some of the higher floor rooms, which is pretty cool even if you’re not usually impressed by tourist stuff. Parking is expensive (this is Manhattan, so duh), but there’s a garage nearby if you’re crazy enough to drive here. The breakfast situation is decent – not amazing, but gets the job done with coffee that’s actually drinkable and some pastries that’ll hold you over until you find real New York bagels.
