You know, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Archer Hotel New York on 38th Street, I wasn’t expecting much. The Garment District isn’t exactly where you’d think to look for a boutique hotel, but that’s actually what makes this place kind of brilliant. It sits right in that sweet spot between the madness of Times Square and the more residential Murray Hill area, which means you get the energy without feeling like you’re trapped in a tourist snow globe.
The moment you step inside, though – wow. This four-star property has this really sophisticated, almost moody vibe with dark wood and brass accents that feel more like an upscale private club than your typical New York hotel. The lobby’s got this amazing double-height ceiling that somehow makes the space feel grand without being intimidating, and there’s usually some interesting art installation happening that changes every few months. I mean, the staff actually seems to know what’s going on around the neighborhood too, which is refreshing – they’ll tell you about the little Korean BBQ place two blocks down that stays open late, or warn you that Herald Square gets absolutely insane during lunch rush.
What really sold me on this place is how they’ve thought about the details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Manhattan, after all), but they’re laid out smart with these custom-built storage solutions that actually work. The bathrooms have proper water pressure – honestly, you’d be surprised how many fancy hotels mess this up – and the beds are that perfect firmness where you don’t feel like you’re sinking into quicksand. The rooftop bar situation is pretty spectacular too, especially if you can snag a table around sunset when the light hits all those Midtown buildings just right. It gets crowded on weekends, but weekday evenings up there are actually pretty chill. One thing I’d mention though – if you’re planning to drive, parking in this area is basically a nightmare and expensive as hell, but the subway access is fantastic. You’ve got Penn Station walking distance, and both the B/D/F/M and N/Q/R/W lines are super close, so you can get pretty much anywhere without dealing with street traffic. The neighborhood’s also got this interesting mix of wholesale fashion showrooms during the day and some really solid restaurants that aren’t total tourist traps, which gives it more character than you might expect.

Fabulous hotel with great rooftop bar and facilities. Lovely Bryant Park is just around the corner.
Ideally situated, beautiful room with comfortable bed. Room was cleaned every day by lovely people and they left us mini treats such as blondies, salted caramels. The view of the Empire State Building was worth the extra cost. Staff were friendly and mostly helpful. The rooftop bar was fabulous especially the banana bread espresso martini.
What could be improved: Not really enough drawer space in the room for two people for a five night stay. The only other issue was front desk staff not being able to give us a rough idea of the cost of a taxi to the theatre, and their policy of not booking taxis for guests except to the airport.
We had an excellent stay.
Great location. The room had everything we needed and it was very useful to be able to put our suitcases under the bed.
What could be improved: The room was always dark in the main area. More lighting is needed.
Exceptional
Great location, modern and clean rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Roof top bar was a nice addition.
What could be improved: Rooms are a little on the small side, but you don’t spend much time in them to be fair.
Great fun few days
Location
Employees are welcoming, friendly, and helpful and the midtown location is convenient to many sites.
Every employee was welcoming, friendly, and very helpful. The employees in the restaurant where we had breakfast each day were very kind and hospitable as well! The midtown location is convenient to Grand Central Station, Bryant Park, NYC sites, and the metro. Great hotel in Midtown! I plan to return and recommend this jewel!
What could be improved: Unfortunately, the rooftop bar closes much too early for a city that never sleeps. It could have stayed open to at least midnight. The outdoor deck was closed because it had rained and we were told it was too slippery to walk out on. I'd recommend applying a non-slip coating so guests could choose to go outside to enjoy the wonderful views.
New York Baby!
The location was 10/10
What could be improved: The room would be perfect if it was just a bit bigger.
I'll gladly return
The hotel itself is perfectly positioned, close to the subway with many things within walking distance.
The room was spacious (by NYC standards), clean and well appointed.
The staff were friendly - check in / out super easy.
Bonus - it came with membership to a local gym 10 minutes walk away.
For us - myself and my adult son - the place was perfect.
What could be improved: I've nothing to suggest - there's so much to see and do in close proximity to the hotel that I didn't visit the rooftop bar, but perhaps if you are after the big dining experience in house there may be better options?
Great hotel… great location
Location and friendly staff
What could be improved: Nothing really
We would happily stay here again.
Location, roof top patio, room was clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: Our room was a little small but we also had the least expensive option so wasn’t an issue.
The archer is an excellent hotel with a great location. The price was reasonable and there were some nice parks like fre
Excellent location and the rooms were comfortable
