Walking into AKA Times Square feels like stepping away from the chaos outside — and honestly, that’s exactly what you need after navigating the madness of 44th Street. This four-star extended-stay hotel sits right in the thick of Midtown Manhattan, but somehow manages to feel more like a sophisticated urban retreat than your typical Times Square tourist trap. The lobby has this sleek, residential vibe that immediately signals you’re in for something different from the usual Broadway district experience.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re literally a two-minute walk from Times Square — I mean, you can see the neon glow from some windows — but you’re just far enough off the main drag to avoid the worst of the street performers and costume characters. The Theater District is right there (perfect for catching a show), and you’ve got subway access at Times Square-42nd Street that’ll get you anywhere in the city. Plus, being on West 44th puts you within easy walking distance of Bryant Park and the New York Public Library, which honestly feels like a small miracle when you’re staying this close to the action.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was more like a mini-apartment than a hotel space — these are extended-stay suites, so you get a proper living area and a full kitchen with everything you actually need. The design is modern without being cold, lots of clean lines and neutral tones that feel calming after a day of sensory overload in New York. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing; despite being in one of the loudest neighborhoods on earth, I could barely hear the street noise once I closed the windows.

The building has a fitness center that’s actually usable (not just a treadmill shoved in a closet), and there’s a business center if you need to print boarding passes or catch up on work. The front desk staff knows their stuff — they gave me solid recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist places. One thing to note: there isn’t a full-service restaurant on-site, but with that kitchen setup and the incredible food scene literally outside your door, it’s really not an issue.
Why Guests Love It
This place works especially well for couples — there’s something about having your own space to decompress that makes a New York trip feel less overwhelming and more romantic. The extended-stay setup means you can grab groceries at the nearby Whole Foods, make coffee in your own space, and actually feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it. It’s that perfect balance of being in the center of everything while still having a peaceful place to retreat to when Times Square inevitably becomes too much.

We chose aka Times Square due to the size of the room with a kitchenette. We were very happy with the room. The bed was super comfortable, all very clean and good provisions in the kitchen.
Location was very convenient just off Times Square and a short distance to subway stations and bus routes.
All reception staff were great but a massive shout out for Kevin who really did make you feel a special guest at every interaction. All hotels and venues with customer service need a Kevin. He would be a superb trainer for the rest of the company!!!
What could be improved: Due to being in a built up area the room did not have a view and it was a little dark, but you don't go to New York to stay in your room and the upside was that it was very quiet even though it is steps from Times Square.
The location was perfect, right next to Times Square and the main attractions.

Really comfortable apartment with everything you need on a ten-day vacation. Location is more than perfect, because you're on Times Square, still far away not to be bothered by all the lights and noise at night. Would definitely stay here again.

What could be improved: I think the front desk area. The face of the apartment/hotel and the elevator section should be a different colour to black
wonderful staff, very well sized rooms especially for New York, generally very comfortable. it’s right by Times Square but I didn’t hear the loud noises at night (on top floor). the morning coffee in the common space was very good and a nice touch.
What could be improved: this is probably more on me but I was expecting more of a kitchenette than I had. there was a sink and a fridge but no cutlery, dishes, microwave, kettle. I stayed in one of the penthouses which apparently doesn’t come with a kitchenette and I think the hotel should make that clearer. also the penthouse, while very nice and spacious, was very dark.
No more than a 30 second walk from being straight into Times Square, it was a fantastic location! The room was lovely and spacious and we had a huge bed. All staff were friendly and the more relaxed nature of it made it feel a lot more like home, rather than a hotel which we really enjoyed.
What could be improved: We loved the coffee and pastries in the lounge, but they kept running out of both at various times throughout the morning.

The room is huge! It's extremely rare for NY. The location is perfect for tourists - it's super close to Times Square, NYPL, Bryant Park, and multiple metro stations in walking proximity. Being in the heart of downtown it's silent in the rooms. Complimentary breakfast is small but pleasant - pastries, coffee, and apples.
What could be improved: No fridge in the room, no kettle.
