First Impressions

Walking into Ace Hotel New York, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical corporate hotel. The lobby buzzes with creative energy — freelancers hunched over laptops, artists sketching in oversized chairs, and the kind of effortlessly cool crowd that makes NoMad feel like the creative heart of Manhattan. It’s a four-star property, but honestly, the vibe feels more like stepping into a friend’s impossibly stylish loft than a traditional hotel.

The NoMad Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re right in the sweet spot between Midtown’s chaos and downtown’s pretension. The hotel sits on West 29th Street in New York‘s NoMad neighborhood, and couples absolutely rave about it (they’ve rated the location 9.2, which is pretty incredible for Manhattan). You can walk to the Empire State Building in five minutes, hit up the incredible food scene around Madison Square Park, or duck into the original Shake Shack when the mood strikes. The subway access is solid too — multiple lines within a few blocks.

The Room Experience

The room design here is what sets Ace apart from the cookie-cutter hotels. Think exposed brick, vintage furniture that actually looks lived-in, and those famous Ace guitars hanging on the wall (yes, you can actually play them). The beds are seriously comfortable — I mean, they’ve nailed that perfect balance between firm and soft. What really impressed me was the attention to detail: proper lighting for reading, outlets where you actually need them, and windows that open (a rarity in New York hotels). Every corner feels thoughtfully curated.

Food and Social Scene

The American breakfast here is solid, though I’ll be honest — it’s the lobby restaurant scene that really shines. The space doubles as a co-working area during the day and transforms into this buzzing social hub by evening. You know what’s interesting? This place has way more repeat guests than most other properties in the city, and after spending time here, I totally get why. There’s something addictive about the energy — it feels like you’re part of a creative community rather than just passing through. The vibe keeps people coming back.

Why Guests Love It

Look, if you’re expecting marble lobbies and white-glove service, this probably isn’t your place. But if you want to feel connected to New York’s creative pulse while still having a comfortable, well-located base, Ace nails it. The staff genuinely seems to care about the experience, the neighborhood puts you in the thick of everything without the Times Square madness, and honestly, you’ll probably end up making friends in the lobby. It’s that rare hotel that manages to feel both polished and authentic — no small feat in a city full of either sterile chains or trying-too-hard boutiques. The overall experience is genuinely memorable.

Apartments in New York provide travelers with authentic local experiences, allowing them to explore traditional delis and experience daily life in historic neighborhoods like Greenwich Village and SoHo.

Great option in Manhattan

Location, lobby facilities, quirkiness

What could be improved: Lifts felt dated and slow, bathrooms a little old, no cupboard for clothes

Great location, nice staff, buzzy bar on the ground floor

What could be improved: Poor lighting in the room - where do they find bulbs that are so dim? Room was small but comfortable enough for the amount of time we spent there. Very clean, the bathroom especially.

Great location and relaxed vibe

What could be improved: The dozens of people loitering out front on the street was a bit unsettling at times and felt a little weird. Am not sure the hotel can do anything.

Worth it, great location and bang for the buck.

Amazing friendly staff! Loved the lobby vibe and the room decorations. Also, the barista at the coffee shop shop downstairs was the friendliest man ever. They will hold your suitcase before checking in/after checking out at no cost.

What could be improved: The bathroom door in the room doesn’t really isolate the bathroom from the rest of the room. It was not an issue for me since I was traveling solo, but I don’t think it would provide enough privacy if I was traveling with someone else. Also, the tub needs some anti slip padding, it was an adventure taking a shower without slipping.

Comfy room in a good safe location with very kind and friendly staff. A great introduction to NYC.

Really nice room. Had natural light. Once I worked out how to use the shower it was piping hot. Nice complimentary soap. Very kind and friendly staff on the reception desk. Very helpful. One actually wrote out how to get to the Guggenheim for me. This was my first contact with New Yorkers (after the airport) and it was so nice to have such friendly people willing to help. Easy to leave luggage there on last day before moving out. Good location ie nice area. Felt completely safe. Good coffee just round the corner at Black Seed bagel. Given that NY is notoriously expensive I felt I got value for money with my room and the customer service.

What could be improved: Teabags were not complimentary. $3 US for one tea bag!! Was a bit of a surprise as am really used to free teabags as I travel a lot.
Bar and lounge area downstairs were very dark. Like very dark. Probably would have spent more time there and spent more money there if it had been a bit lighter.

Comfortable spot Midtown.

Midtown is chaotic, but this isn't a bad location. I liked this hotel and the staff were incredible. All of the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful at all times. Great hotel close to "NoMad" neighborhood and less chaotic than being closer to Times Square.

What could be improved: Hotels should just have free coffee in some capacity. I refuse to believe that providing free coffee will significantly cut into profit margins. However, the hotel bar coffee downstairs was incredible. I just (as a writer) need/like having accessible coffee at 5-5:30 AM so I can work. But if you can live without coffee, great spot.

Very Good

What could be improved: They try to charge you “destination fee” in addition to your booking.com fees. Also, they insist on paying deposits on the same card which is not a legal obligation and does not say anywhere on their web site. When I ask, they want me to cancel the reservation. Rude & irresponsible

Great location

The central location within Manhattan is great if you want to explore Manhattan on foot or by subway.

What could be improved: The room (bunk room) was really small. There was only one chair, but the second person could not sit on the bed due to the top bed height. Lack of airco was intense on hot days.
