AC Hotel by Marriott New York Times Square
Walking into the AC Hotel by Marriott New York Times Square, honestly, my first thought was "wow, this doesn't feel like Times Square at all" – and I mean that in the best possible way.
Walking into the AC Hotel by Marriott New York Times Square, honestly, my first thought was “wow, this doesn’t feel like Times Square at all” – and I mean that in the best possible way. While you’re literally a two-minute walk from all that neon chaos, the lobby has this clean, almost European minimalist vibe that actually helps you decompress from the sensory overload outside. The Spanish influence shows up in subtle ways – the design feels more Madrid than Midtown, which is refreshing when you’ve been dodging Elmo costumes all day.
What really struck me about this four-star place is how they’ve managed the location without letting it overwhelm the experience. You know how some hotels in this area feel like they’re just capitalizing on proximity to Broadway? This one actually feels intentional. The rooms are sleek and uncluttered – I mean, you’re not getting a ton of space (it’s New York, after all), but everything feels purposeful rather than cramped. The beds are genuinely comfortable, and here’s something I appreciated – the blackout curtains actually work, which is crucial when you’ve got those massive LED billboards basically beaming into your window area. The bathrooms lean modern with good water pressure, though the shower setup is a bit tight if you’re particularly tall.
The rooftop situation deserves a mention because, well, you’re paying Times Square prices partly for moments like these. The views are pretty spectacular – you get that classic Manhattan skyline thing happening, especially around sunset. It gets crowded during peak tourist season (basically always), but if you time it right, maybe late afternoon on a weekday, it’s actually a nice spot to catch your breath. One thing I learned from chatting with the bartender – they do close it down during bad weather, so don’t bank on it if you’re visiting in the dead of winter. The street noise is manageable once you’re inside, though you’ll definitely hear the city humming below. Port Authority is close enough to be convenient for getting around, but far enough that you’re not dealing with that particular brand of chaos. Staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions – they knew their neighborhood and could point you toward the good coffee spots that aren’t tourist traps. Parking is what you’d expect for the area (expensive and complicated), so I’d honestly skip the car entirely if possible.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in New York at least three months ahead for major events like marathons and holiday celebrations, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near popular Manhattan attractions.
