Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Wyndham Garden Chinatown on Bowery Street, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. The building’s got that typical New York no-nonsense brick facade, but once you step inside, it’s actually a pleasant surprise. This four-star spot sits right in the thick of things, and I mean that literally – you’re going to hear the city, especially if you’re facing the street side. But here’s the thing: that’s part of the charm when you’re staying in one of Manhattan’s most authentic neighborhoods.
What I really appreciate about this place is how it doesn’t try to sanitize the Chinatown experience. You walk out the front door and boom – you’re immediately hit with the smell of dumplings from Nom Wah Tea Parlor just down the block, and trust me, that’s where you want to grab breakfast instead of whatever continental spread they’ve got upstairs. The hotel staff actually gets this too; they’re not pushing some generic tourist trap restaurants on you. The front desk crew knows their neighborhood, and honestly, they gave me better dining recommendations than most concierges at fancier places. The rooms themselves are clean and modern enough – nothing fancy, but the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are updated. I stayed on the seventh floor and had a decent view of the Manhattan Bridge if I craned my neck just right.
Here’s what you should know if you’re thinking about staying here: the location is absolutely unbeatable if you want to experience real New York without paying Midtown prices. You’re a five-minute walk to the subway – both the B and D lines at Grand Street, plus the 6 at Canal – so getting anywhere in the city is easy. The neighborhood gets quiet-ish after 10 PM, which surprised me, though you’ll still hear the occasional delivery truck rumbling down Bowery. Parking is street parking or paid lots, so factor that in if you’re driving. But really, why would you drive here? One thing I noticed is that the elevators can be slow during busy times, and checkout took longer than I expected – maybe they were understaffed that particular morning. Still, for what you’re getting at this price point in this location, I’d definitely stay here again. You’re not just getting a place to sleep; you’re getting dropped right into one of the most vibrant, authentic corners of Manhattan, where your biggest decision each morning is whether to hit up the dim sum place or that incredible noodle shop that doesn’t even have an English sign.

Very Good
Property was clean and comfortable! Reception was really nice and helpful.
What could be improved: The area that they have serve breakfast got full very quickly. Could be worth mentioning to people when they come down to just take their food back to their room.

Location was good - close to subway station. Room was good.
What could be improved: Breakfast was acceptable while was expecting more for 4 star hotels - lack of seating places despite huge quantity of guests. Personnel at the reception were not very pleasant. It is taking too long for getting deposit back to the credit card.
A new, modern hotel in a great Chinatown location with a rooftop bar and two ground floor restaurant
Great staff, nice to get an upgrade via Wyndham Rewards. Clean room, great bed.
What could be improved: All double rooms need TWO (as in "double") bedside tables with lamps for reading. Similarly, all double rooms need TWO chairs. Forcing one guest to sit on the bed it not a great plan. Shower was great, but ALL showers should have grab bars. Surely we are not the only Wyndham guests who are old and have less balance then they did when young.
Very Good
Very reasonable breakfast. Veeery nice Ramen bar (Shinka) in place. Good location near Chinatown, very close to Little Italy. Good communication with other parts of NY, Walking distance from the Brooklyn Bridge. Would stay there again
What could be improved: Deposit USD50 per room per EACH day of stay!
Very Good
The staff was great, the rooms were clean, the view from the window was amazing!
What could be improved: The air conditioner cooled it down, but only to 74 at least.
It was fair for the price, being NYC is very expensive, rooms were nice.
Good location, near-by restaurants. Room and bed were good.
What could be improved: Air conditioners and computers were not working when we got there, but it got fixed.
Breakfast was poor. They should have fresh fruit, bread, and pastries. Got to learn how elevators work...
Pleasant
It’s clean and comfortable, the breakfast is nice just keep in mind that the tables may not be enough for everyone so try to be there early.
What could be improved: We booked for three people but they just gave us one bed, be very careful about this when booking because apparently this has changed in New York and now you have to book not per person but per bed.
Reasonable and clean place to sleep on a busy NYC trip.
Great location close to Chinatown and Little Italy. It also had multiple restaurants which was nice.
What could be improved: The bathroom had a giant glass window into the main sleeping area. The glass was frosted but others can see almost everything. It was especially bad if the main room lights were off and the bathroom lights were on; there was no privacy to be had.
Very Good
Location was good, we used the Grand st subway which was a 4 minute walk. Bed was comfortable, house keeping came everyday, shower pressure 10/10. 2 complimentary water bottles daily. Breakfast was also good, a different meat option everyday.
What could be improved: Lack of lighting in the room
