First Impressions
Walking into Thompson Central Park New York, by Hyatt feels like stepping into one of those sleek Manhattan hotels you see in movies — you know, the kind where the lobby actually makes you stand a little straighter. This five-star property sits right on West 56th Street, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better if you tried. I mean, you’re literally a stone’s throw from Central Park, which is pretty incredible when you consider how hard it is to find anything decent in this part of New York that doesn’t cost a fortune.
The Heart of Manhattan
What really struck me about this place is how it manages to feel both sophisticated and accessible at the same time. You’re right in the thick of Midtown — Carnegie Hall is practically next door, and Times Square is close enough to walk to but far enough away that you won’t hear the chaos from your room. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about being able to stroll into Central Park for a morning coffee or catch a Broadway show without dealing with subway transfers. The neighborhood has that perfect mix of tourist attractions and actual New York life, which is harder to find than you’d think.
Luxury That Actually Delivers
The rooms here are what I’d call “Manhattan luxury done right” — they’re not trying too hard, but everything feels intentional and well-designed. The views vary depending on which side you’re on, but honestly, even the city-facing rooms have character. What I appreciated most was how the space felt both modern and comfortable — you get those high-end finishes and thoughtful touches without feeling like you’re in a museum. The bathrooms are particularly well done, with that kind of rainfall shower that makes you want to extend your stay just for the morning routine.
Dining and Amenities
Breakfast here offers both Continental and American options, which sounds simple but they execute it well — the kind of spread that works whether you’re rushing off to meetings or planning a leisurely start to your day. The restaurant scene in the hotel itself is solid, though with this location, you’re really spoiled for choice in the neighborhood. One thing that surprised me was the parking situation — they actually have private parking on-site, which is almost unheard of in this part of Manhattan and honestly worth its weight in gold if you’re driving into the city.
Why Guests Love It
There’s a reason this place scores so well with couples and gets those high location ratings — it strikes that sweet spot between being in the center of everything while still feeling like a retreat. You can walk to Lincoln Center, shop along Fifth Avenue, or just disappear into Central Park when the city gets overwhelming. The staff seems to understand that guests here want luxury without pretense, and the whole experience feels more like staying at a really well-run boutique property than a corporate hotel. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re doing New York right, if that makes sense.

Wonderful
Great for getting to Central Park and all our favorite areas.
Recommend I liked it !
I was really looking into options for my recent stay in New York and I loved my choice of Thompson. What I loved - location close to park, room size, and the ability to open windows.
What could be improved: The lobby was nice not not a wow. The bathroom is on the smaller side BUT the room is really nice and big.
Very enjoyable excellent location and brilliant staff helping with theatre booking etc.
Location excellent… staff brilliant and very helpful. Room was comfortable and as expected
What could be improved: Elevators didn’t work for a few hours… had to use service elevator really not practical sharing with working staff.
Great location and service.
The property is in a great location, near Central Park, public transport and good restaurants and other amenities in close proximity.
Very Good
newly renovated, very clean and comfortable hotel, good service
What could be improved: Quality of in room dining food could be better
Very Good
Great location! Big suite - better space than most others! Bed was ok for me but left my partner achey. Main restaurant was just ok.
Very Good
Great location, staff were helpful and friendly, rooms were clean and very comfortable.
What could be improved: All food ordered in the bar and for breakfast was disappointing as it was cool by the time it reached us and was expensive for what it was. If I went back I would have breakfast somewhere else.
Clean great room size, great access to shops and work - amazing front of house staff. See you again soon!!
High floors and lounge is fantastic
Good
Location and access to the gym across the street were major pluses
What could be improved: The back side of the hotel is noisy from the exhaust fans of buildings immediately behind and the whirring sound never abates. The room thermostat doesn’t work consistently.
Great Location
The location is unbeatable—right near Central Park, Times Square, and within easy reach of so many iconic landmarks.
The staff truly made the experience exceptional with their warmth and attentiveness. The hotel boasts two amazing restaurants, including a famous burger place that’s an absolute must-try.
The room was spotless, the service impeccable, and the bed? Oh, the bed was so comfortable that leaving it in the morning was a real struggle—talk about relaxation!
What could be improved: The only downside was that we had an issue with the shower—it was broken when we arrived, and although the engineering team tried to fix it four times, it kept breaking again. Eventually, we gave up and had to manage with a broken shower for three days, which was disappointing.
