The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, New York
Walking into The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, New York honestly feels like stepping into someone's impossibly elegant private residence – if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and unlimited funds.
Walking into The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, New York honestly feels like stepping into someone’s impossibly elegant private residence – if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and unlimited funds. I mean, this five-star property sits right at the corner of 61st and Fifth Avenue, and you know what that means if you’ve spent any time in New York – you’re basically in the heart of everything that matters on the Upper East Side.
The thing about The Pierre is that it doesn’t try too hard to impress you, which actually makes it more impressive. The lobby has this understated grandeur with hand-painted murals that you’ll find yourself staring at while waiting (though honestly, you never wait long here). What really struck me was how quiet it gets once you’re inside – and I’m talking about a hotel that’s literally across from Central Park and walking distance from the Met. The staff has this way of anticipating what you need before you ask, which sounds like marketing speak but it’s actually true. During my stay, they somehow knew I’d want extra pillows and had them sent up before I even unpacked.
The rooms themselves are proper New York luxury – not the flashy kind you see in newer hotels, but the sort of refined elegance that feels timeless. The marble bathrooms are ridiculous in the best way, and if you get a park-facing room, well, you’ll understand why people pay what they pay. I actually loved that the elevators are the old-school kind with operators during peak hours, which adds this authentic New York touch that newer places just can’t replicate. The restaurant downstairs serves breakfast that’ll ruin hotel breakfasts everywhere else for you – their pastries are baked fresh and you can smell it in the hallways around 7 AM. One small thing that matters: the soundproofing is excellent, which isn’t always a given even at high-end places in the city. Fifth Avenue can get pretty loud during the day, but you’d never know it from the upper floors. If there’s one minor critique, it’s that the fitness center is fine but nothing special – though honestly, you’ve got Central Park right there for running, so who cares? The Pierre works because it knows exactly what it is and doesn’t pretend to be anything else. It’s old-school New York luxury done right, without the stuffiness you might expect.

Wonderful
Rooms very comfortable. Breakfasts excellent
Fantastic location
Great stay, will come back, will request better rooms.
Location, service, breakfast, cleanliness was all great.
What could be improved: Our room had constant noice from the big air conditioning unit outside. We were on 5th floor and we could see/hear through our window where the noice was coming. Other than that it was a perfect stay.
Very Good
location was ecellent, convient to tope restuarnts and Central Park. the hotel was a classic old style hotel with attention to detail and service
What could be improved: parking
Excellent… just have your breakfast in another place
Excellent location. Clean and well maintained with good hostage.
What could be improved: The ‘included’ breakfast and the serving was second category for the rest of the staff. Menu with exorbitant prices and billing had wrongly placed items. A pity.
My second or third stay and I hope there will be more. Love the history and location!
Beautiful hotel with great lobby, lots of history, terrific location. I got a great rate.
What could be improved: N/A

Great location and facility
What could be improved: Hallways could use updating
“A grand, aristocratic, and classic hotel that transports you to another era.”
Location is fantastic, amazing classic and aristocratic decoration, very friendly and helpful staff, super clean
What could be improved: It didn’t have a coffee maker in the room.
But there was complimentary coffee and pastry from 6 to 8 am next to the reception, but it would have been fantastic if it would be until 9 or 10 am, since there was no coffee maker in the room & a lot of people wake up later during holidays
Wonderful
Old charm, vintage feel. Housekeeping, staff at restaurant and concierge were excellent! Abraham the concierge took great effort to procure the required reservations, Sait and Sherman at the all day dining were extremely professional and very pleasant !
What could be improved: Arrival and departure experience were poor. Saaransh at the Arrivals desk was very mechanical which went against the feel of a Taj experience.
Wonderful
Very comfortable, great location!
What could be improved: Bar menu not great
A lovely stay at a Manhattan icon
My son and I had a lovely stay at the Pierre. The hotel is beautiful, very comfortable and the location is second to none. We will certainly stay here again, and would recommend it wholeheartedly.
What could be improved: The check-in experience was unfortunately lengthy and the communication around it unnecessarily opaque. But when the manager got involved, everything was solved quickly and with a high degree of professionalism, appropriate amends were made, and our stay at the hotel was highly enjoyable. The checkout experience was smooth, speedy and pleasant.
