First Impressions
Walking into The Mercer feels like stepping into someone’s incredibly stylish private residence — if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and unlimited resources. This five-star boutique hotel occupies a gorgeous 1890s Romanesque Revival building, and honestly, the lobby alone makes you want to linger with a cocktail. The exposed brick walls and soaring ceilings create this perfect blend of industrial chic and refined elegance that somehow doesn’t feel pretentious.
SoHo’s Crown Jewel
You really can’t beat this location — I mean, you’re right in the heart of SoHo on Mercer Street, surrounded by some of the city’s best shopping and dining. What I love about staying here is that you can walk to practically everything worth seeing in downtown Manhattan. The cobblestone streets outside your window are lined with cast-iron architecture that makes every morning feel like you’re living in a movie. Plus, couples absolutely rave about the area (they’ve rated it 9.9, which is pretty much unheard of), and I can see why — there’s something undeniably romantic about wandering these historic streets together.
The Room Experience
The rooms here are something special, and I’m not just saying that because they’re spacious by New York standards (though they definitely are). Each room feels like a carefully curated loft apartment, with those signature exposed brick walls, dark hardwood floors, and custom furnishings that strike the perfect balance between comfort and sophistication. The beds are legitimately amazing — guests consistently mention getting the best sleep of their trip, which is no small feat in a city that never sleeps. The bathrooms feature deep soaking tubs and marble finishes that make you feel like you’re at a high-end spa, not just a hotel.
Dining and Atmosphere
The Mercer Kitchen downstairs is run by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and while the restaurant can get busy (especially during fashion week), the food is consistently excellent. What’s nice is that even if you don’t dine there, the whole hotel has this sophisticated yet relaxed vibe — you’ll see fashion industry folks mixing with art collectors and tourists who clearly did their homework. The service strikes that perfect New York balance of being attentive without being overbearing, and the staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood inside and out.
Why Guests Love It
There’s a reason people keep coming back to The Mercer — actually, they have more repeat guests than most other properties in the city, which tells you something. It’s that rare hotel that manages to feel both luxurious and authentic, like you’re experiencing the real SoHo rather than some sanitized tourist version of it. Whether you’re here for shopping, business, or just want to feel like a temporary New Yorker, this place delivers without trying too hard. The location score of 9.8 isn’t just a number — it reflects how perfectly positioned you are to explore everything from Little Italy to the West Village, all while having a genuinely beautiful retreat to return to each night.

Very expensive!!!!
It was not worth it.
The staff was incredible but it is not enough to justify such an expensive price

Fantastic location. Staff were top notch. Restaurant was outstanding with excellent food and wine list
Would not stay anywhere else.
I love staying at The Mercer whenever I’m in New York. Location, super staff, perfect rooms, extra perfect baths, relaxing lounge. Some afternoons I don’t even go out!
What could be improved: Easier access to porterage out of regular hours would be nice.
Great stay
I was pleasantly surprised by the Mercer. The staff are definitely the highlight (shout out to Joshua) in how friendly and helpful they are. It’s nice that the lobby is just for guests. The room was spacious and they welcomed me with a cookie from Laduree! You can also book a small gym room to work out in, or go to the partner gym if you want something more elaborate. Location is excellent too.
What could be improved: I can’t really think of anything.
Otherwise perfect
Perfect
What could be improved: Unaware booking.com had taken the money out of my account and led to 48 hours of embarrassment
Next level service at the top of it's game.
Everything. The attention to detail was exceptional & the team displayed outstanding customer service. The best example of this was on arrival by taxi, my card was rejected for payment & I didn't have sufficient cash. Doorman Jacob suddenly appeared & paid with his own money to settle the fair. Just incredible!
What could be improved: Could not have been any better!
