The rooms themselves are compact (this is Manhattan, what did you expect?), but they’re clean and surprisingly quiet considering you’re surrounded by cobblestone streets that somehow amplify every taxi and delivery truck. Actually, I was worried about noise when I booked, but the windows do a decent job of muffling the street sounds – though you’ll still hear the occasional late-night reveler stumbling home from the bars in Little Italy.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood. The front desk guy – I think his name was Marcus – didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map. He marked up this little street guide with spots that locals actually go to, including this tiny gallery on Broome Street that I never would have found otherwise. The check-in was smooth, no weird hidden fees or attitude, which honestly feels rare these days. The rooms have this minimalist thing going on that works well – nothing too fancy, but everything you need including surprisingly good water pressure in the shower. I stayed on the fourth floor and could see slivers of the Hudson River if I craned my neck just right from the window. The whole vibe feels more like a well-run boutique spot than your typical chain hotel, even though it’s not trying too hard to be quirky or Instagram-perfect. You know what I mean? Sometimes these SoHo places get so caught up in being cool that they forget about basic comfort, but this one strikes a good balance. If you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring the city anyway – and in this location, why wouldn’t you – it’s exactly what you need without breaking the bank.
