Washington Square Hotel
You know what caught me off guard about the Washington Square Hotel?
You know what caught me off guard about the Washington Square Hotel? It’s actually tucked into this perfect little corner of Greenwich Village where Waverly Place curves around – I mean, you’re literally steps from Washington Square Park, but somehow the hotel feels like this quiet refuge from all the chaos. The first time I walked up, I almost missed it because it doesn’t scream for attention like those massive Midtown places, but that’s honestly part of its charm.
The thing about staying in Greenwich Village is that you’re in the heart of something real – not tourist-trap real, but actual New York real. From the hotel, you can wander down to Bleecker Street for some of the best pizza you’ll ever have (Joe’s is right there, and yes, the hype is justified), or head over to the jazz clubs on MacDougal Street where the music spills out onto the sidewalks on weekend nights. The four-star rating makes sense when you realize they’ve managed to give you that boutique hotel feel without the pretentious attitude – the staff actually knows the neighborhood and will point you toward the hole-in-the-wall spots that most visitors never find.
What I really appreciate is how the rooms feel authentically New York without being cramped (well, they’re not huge, but this is Manhattan, so you adjust your expectations). The windows overlook these tree-lined Village streets, and honestly, waking up to that view of historic brownstones instead of concrete and steel makes you feel like you’re staying in a completely different city. The noise level is surprisingly manageable too – I was worried about street noise, but Waverly Place isn’t a major thoroughfare, so you get the urban energy without the constant sirens. Fair warning though, if you’re driving, parking is going to be a nightmare – but then again, you’re in the Village, so just embrace the subway life. The hotel’s location means you can walk to SoHo for shopping, stroll to Little Italy for dinner, or catch a show in the Theater District with a quick subway ride. It’s one of those places where the 8.4 rating actually understates the experience because the location does so much of the heavy lifting – you’re not just staying at a hotel, you’re living in one of the most authentic parts of the city.
Hotels near me in New York offer convenient access to iconic landmarks, where guests can easily walk to Empire State Building, Central Park, and world-renowned restaurants in diverse neighborhoods.

Guest Reviews
I really recommend
Very nice hotel
I had a single room of a good size
The bathroom is really nice
Complimentary breakfast was nice too. Not overwhelming with choices but very decent
The staff super kind and helpful
What could be improved: The TV in the room didn’t work
At night, the park itself is not safe. But we walked on the opposite sidewalk and it was absolutely ok with A lot of people walking around
Great stay
The politeness and kindness of the staff, specially the doorman were exceptional.
The room was spacious and clean with a very good king bed and a coffee maker. It would be nice if the a blow dryer was available in the bathroom.
The continental breakfast was good with all the essentials.
The location is fantastic. Greenwich Village is a better NY. For parents of students of NYU or Cooper Union it is perfect.
Great location
Great location, good sized room
What could be improved: Pillows were average, street noise can be loud sometimes but that’s just Manhattan in general
Wonderful
The location is super convenient, lots of fun places nearby, but what really makes this place is the staff. The staff is really wonderful. Helpful, kind. It was pouring rain one day and the doorman lent me HIS umbrella. I really felt at home.
What could be improved: I wish there was a fridge in the room. That would have made the room a 10 in terms of comfort.
Great experience
Overall experience was good
What could be improved: N/A
Very Good
The staff, great location.
What could be improved: Should have cereal with the continental breakfast, the dining area was very tired, and there should general access to a microwave oven.
Location, location, location
Amazing location in Greenwich Village right on the border of Washington Square Park.
What could be improved: The older style brings charm, but also seems dated
Excellent.
Great location and lots of old fashioned charm about the building. Rooms were a good size (for New York!!) Really easy to go up or downtown either on foot or on the subway - station just around the corner. Lots of nice places to eat nearby, including the restaurant in the hotel (best fries we have had in 2 weeks in the USA and probably the best value meal that we had in NYC)
What could be improved: Nothing.
Lovely hotel tucked away in the west village - I'd stay again! :)
Nice cosy hotel situated in the west village. The beds are very comfortable and the air con works great! Nice/helpful staff - I'd definitely stay again!
What could be improved: Rooms are perfectly adequate, but slightly smaller than I expected.
A great location to explore New York from.
A great location
