Shoreham Hotel
I'll be honest – when I first walked into the Shoreham Hotel on West 55th, I wasn't expecting much from what looked like just another Midtown building.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into the Shoreham Hotel on West 55th, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like just another Midtown building. But you know what? This four-star spot actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this understated elegance that feels more like a well-appointed apartment building than your typical tourist hotel, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to blend in with New York rather than scream “I’m a visitor.”
The location is honestly perfect if you’re the type who likes to walk everywhere – I mean, you’re literally steps from Carnegie Hall (I could hear the faint sounds of rehearsals from my room on the sixth floor, which was actually kind of magical), and Central Park is close enough that you’ll find yourself wandering over there for morning coffee without even planning it. What I really appreciated was being on a residential-feeling block rather than stuck on one of those crazy busy avenues where you can’t think straight. The staff seems to get that too – they’re not overly chatty, just genuinely helpful in that New York way where they know you’ve got places to be.
The rooms themselves are what I’d call “smartly designed” rather than huge, because let’s face it, this is Manhattan and space costs money. Mine had these great blackout curtains that actually worked (you’d be surprised how many hotels mess this up), and the bathroom was recently updated with one of those rainfall showers that makes you not want to leave. I stayed there during Fashion Week when everything was booked solid, and while the elevators got a bit slow during rush times, the whole place maintained this calm, residential vibe that felt like a real escape from the Midtown chaos. The neighborhood comes alive differently at night too – you’ve got Lincoln Center just a few blocks north, so there’s always this interesting mix of theater people and locals grabbing dinner at the little spots along 9th Avenue. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning to spend time on the Upper West Side or needed to be near the business district but wanted to come home somewhere that feels more like New York and less like generic hotel land.

It was a nice stay, centrally located, etc. We would stay there again.
The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was adequately sized. Better than some NYC hotel rooms I've stayed in. The staff were friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: Our first room we were given smelled smoky, so we changed rooms. The next was better. Also, our hair dryer was broken in the room we stayed in. Last, the "down" call button on the elevator didn't work on the 7th floor. We soon learned that we had to press the Up button to call the elevator.
I really enjoyed my short stay and would stay there again and recommend to friends to stay there.
The room was very clean and spacious. The location was excellent for what I was in New York for. I did not have breakfast at the hotel though.
What could be improved: I was surprised the room was very clean compared to my last stay in New York where the hotel I stayed at had a very small room, the air condition did not work, and it costed more money than Shoreham.
Great location
Location and friendly staff
What could be improved: No coffee making facilities and the horribly noisy air con system
Very central, convenient
The hotel is situated in Midtown Manhattan making many places easy to reach. Even with a window to the street the noise was not too loud.
The reception is functioning 24 hours a day with friendly helpful staff. There is a small shop directly opposite of the reception selling drinks, snacks, and other useful things.
The room was clean, sufficiently big. The air-conditioning worked well.
What could be improved: New York is very expensive, and so us this hotel - although there were many more expensive alternatives. The rooms are a bit dated, nothing fancy, no fridge.
There is a restaurant at the ground floor, but no breakfast is offered.
great location and spacious room
very spacious 2 bedroom accommodation. It was clean, personnel was friendly and attentive. Location is excellent: walking distance from various top tourist sites.
What could be improved: rooms are a bit worn. Nothing too serious, but does not live up to what one can expect from a 4-star hotel. Absence of a (mini) fridge is the room is highly inconvenient.
This hotel offers good value for money.
