Overview

Royalton New York

I'll be honest – when I first walked into Royalton New York, I wasn't expecting much from the outside.

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Royalton New York, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. The building sits right there on West 44th Street, and from the sidewalk it looks pretty understated, almost like it’s trying not to draw attention to itself. But step through those doors and wow, the lobby hits you with this sleek, Philippe Starck-designed vibe that’s all clean lines and moody lighting. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel like you should be wearing something more expensive than whatever you threw on that morning.

The location is actually perfect if you’re planning to see a show – I mean, you’re literally in the heart of the Theater District. Times Square is right there (which can be a blessing or a curse depending on how you feel about crowds), but honestly, the hotel does a surprisingly good job of keeping the street noise out. The rooms have this modern, minimalist thing going on with dark wood and crisp white linens. I stayed on the 12th floor and barely heard the chaos below, which in New York is pretty impressive. The four-star rating feels about right – it’s polished and comfortable without being over-the-top fancy. You know what I really appreciated? The bathrooms are actually spacious by Manhattan standards, with decent water pressure and those little touches that make you feel like you’re not just crashing in some cookie-cutter room.

What really sold me on this place, though, was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood. The concierge didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map – she told me about this little coffee spot on 9th Avenue that locals hit up, and steered me away from the tourist trap restaurants right around the corner. The hotel restaurant, Forty Four, is solid for a quick bite, though honestly you’re spoiled for choice in this area so don’t feel like you have to eat there every night. One thing to keep in mind – this is Midtown, so you’re paying Midtown prices for everything, but you’re also getting that energy and convenience that makes New York feel like New York. I walked to Central Park, caught a Broadway show, and grabbed late-night pizza all within a few blocks. The 7.4 rating online seems fair – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers exactly what you’d want from a well-run hotel in one of the best spots in the city.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in New York at least three months ahead for major events like marathons and holiday celebrations, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near popular Manhattan attractions.

Great location and value for money

Great staff and location. Bed was very comfy too!

What could be improved: Would have been nice to have a bar in the hotel and some tea and coffee making facilities

Loved New York and the Royalton

The room was spacious and comfortable. The location was central - close to Times Square and Broadway. It was well-located for public transport.

What could be improved: We would have liked tea/coffee available in our room.

Great location and comfortable room.reasonably priced for central NYC

Central location. Large room. Good aircon (albeit a bit noisy).

What could be improved: Seemed a bit odd not to have a bar open but ultimately we wanted a room to sleep in so not a massive problem. Would have liked better quality toiletries but that’s a small issue.
