Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel
The Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel sits right in the thick of Manhattan's Garment District, and honestly, when I first walked up to it on West 35th Street, I wasn't expecting much from the outside – it's got that classic New York thing where the entrance is sort of understated.
The Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel sits right in the thick of Manhattan’s Garment District, and honestly, when I first walked up to it on West 35th Street, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside – it’s got that classic New York thing where the entrance is sort of understated. But step inside and you immediately get why this four-star property has such a solid reputation.
What really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to feel both polished and approachable at the same time. The lobby has this warm, contemporary vibe with rich wood tones and comfortable seating areas where you actually see people working on laptops or having casual meetings – not just rushing through. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing, which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in New York. Check-in was smooth, and the front desk person actually gave me useful recommendations for nearby spots, not just the tourist traps. The rooms themselves are what I’d call thoughtfully designed – they’ve got that modern hotel look but with enough character to feel like more than just a place to sleep. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are spacious by Manhattan standards, which is saying something.
Location-wise, you’re really well positioned here. Penn Station and Madison Square Garden are just a few blocks south, which is incredibly handy if you’re catching trains or heading to events. Herald Square and all that Macy’s madness is right there too, but the hotel itself sits on a quieter stretch that doesn’t get the full brunt of the tourist chaos. I walked to Times Square in about ten minutes, but when I came back at night, the neighborhood around the hotel felt much more manageable – you know, like you could actually have a conversation without shouting. The subway access is solid with multiple lines nearby, and I found myself walking to a lot of places during the day because you’re genuinely central to so much. One thing worth mentioning – the elevators can get busy during peak times, but that’s pretty standard for midtown hotels. The fitness center is decent sized and well-equipped, though it does get crowded in the early morning hours when all the business travelers are trying to squeeze in workouts. What I really appreciated was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere for more than just a night – good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets, and blackout curtains that actually work. It’s the kind of place where you feel like they understand what travelers actually need, not just what looks good in photos.
