Moxy NYC Chelsea

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Moxy NYC Chelsea, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star spot on West 28th Street. The lobby hit me immediately with this vibrant, almost electric energy that’s part nightclub, part coworking space, and somehow it actually works. There’s this massive communal table where people are camped out with laptops during the day, and by evening it transforms into more of a social hub with craft cocktails flowing from the sleek bar area.
What really sold me on this place is how it captures that authentic New York hustle without trying too hard. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the High Line entrance at 26th Street – and I mean literally, I timed it because I’m that person. The neighborhood has this perfect mix of energy and accessibility that you don’t always find in Manhattan hotels. During my stay, I’d grab coffee from the lobby (they actually make a decent flat white) and walk over to Madison Square Park for a quieter morning moment, then swing by Eataly on 23rd when I needed provisions. The subway situation is pretty solid too – you’ve got the R and W trains at 28th Street basically at your doorstep.
The rooms themselves are compact but thoughtfully designed in that distinctly modern way – think clean lines, pops of color, and smart storage solutions that make the most of every square inch. I appreciated the big windows that actually open, which isn’t always a given in newer NYC hotels, and the rainfall shower was surprisingly luxurious for what you’d expect at this price point. The walls are thicker than some places I’ve stayed in the city, so you’re not hearing every conversation in the hallway at 2 AM. One small thing that impressed me – the USB outlets are exactly where you need them, and the lighting actually works for both getting ready and winding down. Look, it’s not going to feel spacious if you’re used to suburban hotel suites, but for Manhattan standards, especially in Chelsea, it hits that sweet spot of comfortable and efficient. The whole vibe just feels authentic to the neighborhood – energetic but not chaotic, stylish without being pretentious, and honestly refreshing after staying in too many cookie-cutter chain hotels that could be anywhere in America.
Early hotels booking in New York requires advance planning during peak seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s Broadway shows, world-class shopping, and American cultural attractions.

Funky spot for a couple
Handy location, funky room
What could be improved: Room was a little small, expensive breakfast
Highly recommended
Perfect location for exploring mid-town. Great shower facilities, super comfy bed, and the staff were friendly and polite. Rooms have ample space and incredible views of the skyline (definitely worth the extra to book a City View room - mine was located right opposite the Empire State Building, which made the stay extra special).
What could be improved: A pre-payment was taken despite the terms of the booking stating I'd pay at the property. An inconvenience rather than a major negative but accurate information should be provided at the time of booking if this is standard procedure.
2 days in NYC
The location was good, close to the subway and walking distance to some attractions. Got a $20 voucher that we used for breakfast, which was nice. The coffee was great as well as the sandwiches, although they are a bit on the small size.
What could be improved: When we arrived Sunday afternoon for check in, two out of four elevators were not working, which resulted in a long wait to get to the room. The Fleur rooftop bar was not open on Sundays, which seemed odd. And there is no mini refrigerator in the room.
Was just okay
Central location. Bed is comfortable. Beautiful view from room. Best lavender drink at the bar.
What could be improved: The loud music in the elevators. The room is tiny. The lights are weird - the one next to the bed controls the whole room. You can’t turn it on independently.
The bouncers to get to the rooftop are difficult and unfriendly.
Really enjoyed our stay there and would happily stay again!
Great location. Comfortable beds, clean rooms. My second time staying there so knew it was a nice place to stay! Good food in the bar.
What could be improved: We had some issues with the first room allocated to us and were waiting for a while for sometime to come and assist. That said, once the manager on duty got involved, it was sorted very quickly - Victor was very helpful.
Comfortable
The place and installations, and how clean it was
What could be improved: Everything was good
It was beautiful
The view was beautiful and accommodating...the aesthetics was everything
What could be improved: A refrigerator and microwave would really be helpful
Charming and hip hotel on the Flat Iron / Chelsea border - good for couples and those who love a good view.
The aesthetic of the hotel was wonderful, the staff was awesome, and the view was great. Beds were comfy, water pressure was good, cafe staff was great great great.
What could be improved: Other guests were some times rowdy (drunks in the elevator), the rooftop bar was overrun and too crowded to enjoy, and the lack of real walls for the bathroom (it’s just glass walls that you can still see / hear things through) is a trouble. Tho to be fair - the walls do go floor to ceiling unlike similar bathrooms at Yotel which have a gap.
Good location /small rooms
Hotel was Close to everything. Rooms were small tho ok and the rooms had no fridge. There was No closet or space for bags at all for two people. Rooms are tiny. No space to walk around The View of the empire state blg was amazing.
Location in subway and bus was good with many restaurants Nearby.
$20 credit was ok for one breakfast daily as the cafe .
Rooftop bar was advertised but was hard to get in for hotel guests. But When we got there it was great. Fridays and sat nights you can't get in .
They had fun hotel events but we missed them .
Bar on level 2 was amazing. Quiet and tho nobody was there at times. No staff there.
There Were Big lines for the lift at times.
Staff were unhelpful. And at times very rude.
My room was cleaned daily but my daughters wasn't cleaned in 5 days at all.
Cafe down Stairs was good and bar was great on rooftop. Very expensive
What could be improved: See above
