First Impressions
Walking up to Midtown West Hotel on West 30th Street, you know what strikes me first? It’s not trying to be something it isn’t. This three-star spot sits right in the thick of Hell’s Kitchen, and honestly, that’s exactly where you want to be in New York. The building has that classic Manhattan feel — nothing flashy, but solid and welcoming. I mean, when you’re paying reasonable rates to stay in one of the best neighborhoods in the city, you’re already winning.
The Hell’s Kitchen Advantage
Here’s the thing about this location — couples absolutely love it, and I get why. You’re literally a few blocks from Times Square without the tourist chaos right outside your door. The restaurant scene around here is incredible, from hole-in-the-wall Thai places to upscale bistros that locals actually frequent. Penn Station is close enough for easy airport connections, but far enough that you won’t hear the subway rumble. Plus, you can walk to Central Park, the High Line, or catch a Broadway show without breaking a sweat.
What Your Room Offers
The room itself? Look, it’s Manhattan — space is premium everywhere, but they’ve made smart use of what they have. The beds are comfortable (trust me, after walking 20,000 steps around the city, you’ll appreciate this), and the bathrooms are clean and functional. You’ll find all the basics you need, though don’t expect a sprawling suite. The windows actually open, which is surprisingly rare in the city, and the air conditioning works well during those brutal summer months.
Getting Around and Practical Stuff
Transportation is where this place really shines. The subway connections are fantastic — you’ve got multiple lines within walking distance, so getting anywhere in the city is straightforward. If you’re driving (though honestly, why would you in Manhattan?), there’s parking available, but expect to pay typical NYC rates. The front desk staff knows the neighborhood well, and they’ll steer you toward the good stuff — like which bodega has the best coffee or where to grab a decent slice at 2 AM.
Why Guests Love It
What really works here is the balance. You’re not paying premium prices, but you’re getting that authentic New York experience in a neighborhood that actually feels like New York. The location score speaks for itself — when couples rate it 8.3, that tells you something about how walkable and enjoyable this area is. You can stumble back from dinner in Little Italy, catch an early morning run along the Hudson River, or just sit in one of the nearby parks with coffee and watch the city wake up. It’s the kind of place where you spend your days exploring and your nights planning tomorrow’s adventures.

Guest Reviews
Location was great.
What could be improved: Well, let's face it, it's not a luxury hotel.
This hotel is near the major connecting station, so we can easily connect with the other places
What could be improved: It's decent hotel, messy due to renovation.
Great location near Penn Station.
What could be improved: Very noisy / both road noise and sounds from within the hotel
Heating was way too hot but no controls
It is now much older and less well maintained than it looks in it pictures.
Nice rooms and the convenience store right next door.
What could be improved: The person I encountered at Check in was rude and needs to remember there are service dogs and you can’t deny one. He argued with me about not contacting them about pets cause they don’t allow pets and told me if any complaints I am responsible, was expecting a queen bed but it was one twin and no breakfast or coffee.
Location
What could be improved: The bed was broken. It needs changing
Clean and comfortable bed
What could be improved: 4 th floor walk up. I needed help with luggage going up and another guest helped me going down
Bathroom was tiny but adequate. They need toilet seats with cover. Too easy to accidentally drop things in toilet and foot sanitary reasons when flushing.
Great location, a block from Amtrak. The room was clean.
What could be improved: No elevator
Great location if you need to be close to Penn Station. Clean and helpful staff.
What could be improved: No Elevator, so luggage can be an issue.
It was comfortable stay and easy check in.
What could be improved: They did not offer any coffee or water like it stated. There was no cable and the bathroom was super small.
Close to Penn Station
What could be improved: The maintenance and cleaning staff was professional. As for the front desk, Friday night staff was good, but the rest need to go to charm school.
