First Impressions
Walking into the Mayfair Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection on West 49th Street, you immediately get that classic New York boutique hotel vibe — it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in town, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about it. The lobby has this comfortable, lived-in elegance that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto a well-kept secret in the Theater District. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how the three-star property manages to feel more upscale than its rating suggests.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about this hotel’s location — it’s ridiculously good, and I mean that in the best way possible. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Times Square, but you’re tucked away just enough that you don’t have to deal with the constant chaos when you want to decompress. The subway access is fantastic (you’ve got multiple lines within a few blocks), and if you’re planning to catch a Broadway show, well, you’re basically in the heart of it all. I noticed couples seem to really appreciate this spot — there’s something romantic about being able to walk to dinner in Hell’s Kitchen or stroll through the Theater District without feeling like tourists trapped in the madness.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but smartly designed — this is Manhattan, after all, so you’re not getting sprawling suites unless you’re paying serious money. What impressed me was how they maximized the space without making it feel cramped. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathroom, while small, had good water pressure and decent lighting. You know what I really appreciated? The blackout curtains actually work, which is crucial when you’re dealing with the city that never sleeps right outside your window.
Practical Perks
The staff here gets it — they understand that travelers need real help, not just polite smiles. When I needed restaurant recommendations that weren’t the usual tourist traps, the front desk actually gave me solid local spots. The WiFi works reliably throughout the building, which honestly can’t be said for every hotel in this price range in the city. There’s no on-site restaurant, but given the incredible dining scene literally steps from your door, that’s hardly a problem. I actually preferred having the flexibility to explore the neighborhood rather than being tied to hotel dining.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel succeeds because it knows exactly what it is — a well-located, comfortable base for exploring New York without the premium price tag of major hotel chains. The 8.6 rating makes perfect sense when you experience it firsthand; it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does really well. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having a quiet retreat in the middle of all the urban energy. You get the authentic New York experience without sacrificing comfort, and honestly, that balance is harder to find than you might think.

Guest Reviews
Everything was great, especially the staff.
Great price, fantastic location
The room is clean and has everything you could need. The staff is friendly, and I loved the 24-hour coffee, tea, and hot chocolate bar in the lobby. I also like that you can connect your Netflix or what have you easily to the TV.
Customer service was fantastic, room was super clean and bed was very comfy
Location, boutique look, cleanliness
This is my second stay in Mayfair Hotel and I think I will keep coming back. The staff is kind, attentive and very professional. Their knowledge about anything I ask is very satisfactory. I stayed in a queen room as the last time, which is great for a single occupancy. This room was slightly bigger than the last one, so could be ok for 2 people, too. As always the rooms are spotlessly clean. I feel like home at this place. The housekeeping team does great job and in fact this is the reason I come back to this hotel. You can adjust the air conditioner in the room, the bathroom is one of those unique ones where there is not a single drop leaking from the shower cabin. The hair dryer is powerful, there are plenty of usb, usb-c plugs in the room, so even if you don't have an adapter for US plugs, you may still charge your phone. I appreciate everything at this hotel. The location is perfect for your first time visit in NY and if you like walking, you can still cover a lot. I walked to Whitney Museum from the hotel and it just took me 40 minutes. Unless I choose to stay at lower Manhattan, I will always come back to this hotel every time I visit New York.
