Mandarin Oriental, New York

First Impressions Walking into the Mandarin Oriental, New York feels like stepping into someone's incredibly sophisticated private residence — if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and unlimited resources.

First Impressions

Walking into the Mandarin Oriental, New York feels like stepping into someone’s incredibly sophisticated private residence — if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and unlimited resources. The lobby sits high above Columbus Circle, and honestly, the views hit you before you even check in. This five-star property occupies floors 35 through 54 of the Time Warner Center, which means you’re literally living above the city rather than just being in it. I mean, there’s something pretty spectacular about taking an elevator to your hotel lobby that’s already 35 floors up.

The Location Advantage

You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re right at the corner of Central Park, but you’re also steps from Lincoln Center and some of the best shopping in New York. The whole Columbus Circle area has this energy that’s distinctly Manhattan — busy enough to feel exciting, but not so chaotic that you can’t actually enjoy yourself. Couples seem to really get this location (and I can see why), because you can walk into Central Park for a morning run, catch a show at Lincoln Center in the evening, and never feel like you’re fighting the city to get around. The subway connections here are actually pretty solid too, which matters more than you’d think.

Rooms with a View

The room I stayed in faced Central Park, and I’ll be honest — I spent way too much time just staring out the floor-to-ceiling windows. The interiors have this understated luxury thing going on, with clean lines and materials that feel expensive without being flashy. The marble bathrooms are genuinely impressive, and the soaking tubs are deep enough that you can actually relax in them. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything felt, despite being in the middle of Manhattan. The soundproofing is clearly top-notch, because the city noise just… disappears.

Dining and Amenities

Asiate, the hotel’s signature restaurant, sits on the 35th floor and serves this contemporary American cuisine with Asian influences. The food is excellent, but honestly, you’re also paying for those wraparound views of Central Park and the Hudson River. The spa feels like a serene escape — they’ve got this whole Oriental wellness philosophy thing down, and the treatments actually live up to the hype. There’s also a fitness center that doesn’t feel like an afterthought, which is refreshing. The staff throughout the hotel strikes that perfect balance of being attentive without hovering.

Why Guests Love It

This isn’t the kind of place where you’re impressed by flashy gimmicks — it’s more about refined luxury and that sense of being above it all (literally and figuratively). The combination of the prime location, those incredible views, and service that feels genuinely personalized rather than scripted makes it work. Recent guests consistently rave about the location, and after staying here, I get it. You’re not just visiting New York; you’re experiencing it from this elevated perspective that somehow makes the whole city feel more manageable and beautiful at the same time.

Many travelers prefer to book apartments in New York through trusted local agencies that provide insider knowledge about the best boroughs for experiencing the city’s metropolitan atmosphere and cultural diversity.

Location

The location is the best. And the staff are very good.

What could be improved: The pool was closed and no one told us only when we asked . The rooms need an update it’s old. And no coffee machine in the room.

Great hotel location, an island of quietness & relaxation in Manhattan with stellar service

Stellar location in Columbus Circle right at the corner of Central Park with excellent views from both the rooms and the breakfast/dining lounge. Excellent service from the entire staff who are very knowledgable and full of little attentions for guests. Rooms are well-equipped, comfortable and a decent size for Manhattan property; in addition, the location of the hotel in the upper floors of the tower make one's stay very calm and quiet, allowing for decent sleep whilst being located in the center of the action. F&B also deserves two thumbs up as their new French chef is very talented, breakfast to dinner has been of excellent quality. Finally the therapists at the spa were are very good. Would definitely stay there again.

What could be improved: The spa & gym facilities were relatively dated, and most of the spa facilities (e.g. hammam, saunas, etc.) are not accessible to hotel guests unless one books a treatment for an extra charge - not normal and misleading vs what is advertised on the website/Booking.com. Only the gym and an indoor pool that gets very stuffy/greenhouse during summer; also that pool needs to be restricted to adults-only, one kid around and the pool becomes a total mess with water splashes everywhere.
This property is also missing a proper restaurant to give to its excellent chef more "room to play".

Wonderful

The staff, in general, were very welcoming and helpful, with a special mention to Miles Gomez. He stood out for his exceptional hospitality and assistance. As someone who travels frequently, I can confidently say that Miles is one of the best front desk staff I have ever encountered.

Fantastic all round.

Asked for a high room as we were on our baby moon, got the top floor with best view the hotel has to offer. Concierge was very helpful with babysitting. Everything was great.

What could be improved: Had a weird interaction with one of the women at reception where she wouldn't let my wife up to our room as she didn't have her ID... Who takes their ID to breakfast? And why not just call me in the room to verify that my wife is... My wife... Guess that things about being black in America is a real thing.
