Mandarin Oriental, New York
You know what hits you first when you walk into the Mandarin Oriental, New York?
You know what hits you first when you walk into the Mandarin Oriental, New York? It’s not just the marble or the soaring ceilings – it’s the fact that you’re suddenly thirty-five floors above all the Columbus Circle chaos, and somehow the city noise just disappears. I mean, you’re literally perched above one of Manhattan’s busiest intersections, but the soundproofing here is honestly incredible.
This five-star property sits right at the corner of Central Park, and I’m talking about those rooms where you can actually see joggers doing their morning loops around the reservoir. The location is sort of perfect if you think about it – you’ve got Lincoln Center right across the street (I’ve literally walked to the Met Opera in under three minutes), but you’re also close enough to Midtown that a cab ride to Times Square won’t break the bank. The whole Columbus Circle area has this interesting energy where Upper West Side residential vibes meet serious Manhattan business, and the hotel captures that balance really well.
What I actually love about staying here is how they’ve managed to feel intimate despite being in such a massive building – the Time Warner Center is huge, but the hotel entrance feels tucked away and private. The spa on the 35th floor is where things get genuinely special; those floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Central Park while you’re getting a massage are pretty unforgettable. And honestly, the restaurant scene downstairs is solid – Asiate has those dramatic views, though I’ll warn you the prices match the altitude. The bar gets busy with Lincoln Center crowds before shows, which can be fun if you’re into that scene or slightly annoying if you just want a quiet drink. Check-in is usually smooth, though I’ve noticed weekend afternoons can get backed up with all the theater-goers arriving. The rooms themselves feel genuinely luxurious without being stuffy – those marble bathrooms are massive, and the beds are the kind where you might actually sleep through your alarm. Parking is valet only and costs what you’d expect in this part of New York, but the subway is right downstairs if you’re trying to save some cash. It’s the kind of place where the details matter – heated bathroom floors, blackout curtains that actually work, and staff who remember your coffee preferences after the first day.
Many travelers prefer to book apartments in New York through trusted local agencies that provide insider knowledge about the best boroughs for experiencing the city’s metropolitan atmosphere and cultural diversity.

Location
The location is the best. And the staff are very good.
What could be improved: The pool was closed and no one told us only when we asked . The rooms need an update it’s old. And no coffee machine in the room.
Great hotel location, an island of quietness & relaxation in Manhattan with stellar service
Stellar location in Columbus Circle right at the corner of Central Park with excellent views from both the rooms and the breakfast/dining lounge. Excellent service from the entire staff who are very knowledgable and full of little attentions for guests. Rooms are well-equipped, comfortable and a decent size for Manhattan property; in addition, the location of the hotel in the upper floors of the tower make one's stay very calm and quiet, allowing for decent sleep whilst being located in the center of the action. F&B also deserves two thumbs up as their new French chef is very talented, breakfast to dinner has been of excellent quality. Finally the therapists at the spa were are very good. Would definitely stay there again.
What could be improved: The spa & gym facilities were relatively dated, and most of the spa facilities (e.g. hammam, saunas, etc.) are not accessible to hotel guests unless one books a treatment for an extra charge - not normal and misleading vs what is advertised on the website/Booking.com. Only the gym and an indoor pool that gets very stuffy/greenhouse during summer; also that pool needs to be restricted to adults-only, one kid around and the pool becomes a total mess with water splashes everywhere.
This property is also missing a proper restaurant to give to its excellent chef more "room to play".
Top class hotel in primary location
Great location and services
What could be improved: It’s expensive
Wonderful
The staff, in general, were very welcoming and helpful, with a special mention to Miles Gomez. He stood out for his exceptional hospitality and assistance. As someone who travels frequently, I can confidently say that Miles is one of the best front desk staff I have ever encountered.
Great location great staff overrated and overpriced
Excellent location, staff friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: Room was a bit old needs to be renovated
Though the room was not clean! Sheet were stained, bathroom and loo were not clean
No coffee machine
Our luggage were sent to a different room and took them 2 hours to bring them to our room.
Staff was very nice and helpful they tried to help us and make it up for the inconveniences
Fantastic all round.
Asked for a high room as we were on our baby moon, got the top floor with best view the hotel has to offer. Concierge was very helpful with babysitting. Everything was great.
What could be improved: Had a weird interaction with one of the women at reception where she wouldn't let my wife up to our room as she didn't have her ID... Who takes their ID to breakfast? And why not just call me in the room to verify that my wife is... My wife... Guess that things about being black in America is a real thing.
