Leo House
So I stumbled upon Leo House on West 23rd Street in Chelsea, and honestly, it's one of those places that surprises you in the best way.
So I stumbled upon Leo House on West 23rd Street in Chelsea, and honestly, it’s one of those places that surprises you in the best way. You know how sometimes three-star places can feel a bit tired? Well, this isn’t one of them. The building itself has this old-school New York character – I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Chelsea, just a couple blocks from the High Line, which is pretty sweet if you ask me.
What really struck me about this place is how it manages to feel both cozy and efficient at the same time. The rooms aren’t huge (this is New York after all), but they’re thoughtfully laid out, and you can tell someone actually cares about the details. The beds are surprisingly comfortable – I’ve stayed in pricier places with way worse mattresses. And here’s something I really appreciated: the staff actually knows the neighborhood. When I asked about good coffee spots, the front desk guy didn’t just point me to Starbucks; he sent me to this little place on 8th Avenue that locals actually go to.
Location-wise, you’re golden here. Chelsea Market is basically around the corner, and if you’re into the whole gallery scene, you’ve got plenty to explore without even getting on the subway. Though honestly, the subway access is solid too – you’ve got the C and E trains right at 23rd Street, so getting around the city is no problem. I walked to Madison Square Garden in about fifteen minutes, which was perfect since I was there for a show. The neighborhood gets a bit quiet at night, but in a good way – you’re not dealing with the chaos of Times Square, but you’re not stuck in some dead zone either. One thing I noticed is that parking can be a pain if you’re driving (but really, who drives in Manhattan?), and the elevators can get a bit slow during busy times, but these are pretty minor things considering what you’re getting for the price. Leo House feels like a place where actual New Yorkers might put up their visiting relatives, you know? It’s got that authentic feel without trying too hard to be trendy.

Great location for price, helpful staff, safe, comfortable.
It always feels quite safe to stay in and the location is fantastic for the price
What could be improved: There were just a few small things. Too many cables and not enough plug sockets. The plug sockets are already filled with internet adapters and very few are left for personal use. They are in awkward places. The lamp wasn’t working and the batteries in the remote were gone.
Perfect location, very good value for price
Location, breakfast, price
What could be improved: Noise, old fashioned
Wonderful
I found the hotel to be very comfortable and the location is great. Very nice breakfast each morning with hot entries like bacon, ham or scrambled eggs, special pastries, yogurt with all the toppings, and lots of different fresh fruit. Comfortable lounge with TV and beautiful back patio.
Please fix the TV and the Internet.
I like that the property was clean, the staff were polite, and the breakfast were very good.
What could be improved: I did not like that. There was no Internet for the whole five days that I was there. Also, the TV was not working for the whole time so that was a disappointment.
This is my second stay here and I would gladly do it again
Great location, relaxed lobby, great breakfast, nice staff
What could be improved: The ac was much appreciated but we found the room too hot without it. Prefer not to leave on at night
If it’s good enough for Mother Teresa…
Excellent location and unique seminary atmosphere. Mother Teresa once slept in room 409 back in 1960.
What could be improved: Bed was on the small side but fine. WiFi wasn’t working.

Great accommodation in Chelsea
Leo House is a quirky hotel in Chelsea, a prime location for a tourist in New York. We had the half bath double room, which was fine, the shower was next door and never busy. The staff were great, breakfast was good, the room comfortable and relatively quiet for being in the middle of the city. The subway was a few steps away, as was the Highline. We walked home from our Broadway show, everything felt very safe. We would definitely stay there again.
What could be improved: They blew out the extractor fans in the shower room next to ours, not realising that the dust would blow straight into our half bath. The contractors didn't do a great job of cleaning up after themselves, no big deal and not necessarily Leo House's fault, but something they could be aware of in future.
