Hotel Mulberry
You know what struck me first about Hotel Mulberry?
You know what struck me first about Hotel Mulberry? Walking up to this three-star spot on Mulberry Street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s tucked right into the heart of Chinatown’s chaos, with vendors hawking knockoff bags practically on the doorstep. But there’s something genuinely charming about this place that grows on you, especially once you realize how perfectly positioned you are to dive into one of New York’s most authentic neighborhoods.
The lobby’s got this unexpectedly cozy vibe – not fancy, but clean and welcoming in a way that feels more like a well-run European pension than your typical Manhattan hotel. Actually, the front desk staff seemed to know half the regulars by name, which tells you something about the kind of place this is. My room was compact (obviously, we’re talking NYC here), but honestly pretty well thought out. The bathroom was surprisingly decent-sized for the price point, and I loved that the windows actually opened – you get these amazing sounds of the neighborhood waking up, from the early morning deliveries to the dim sum carts rolling down Mott Street. Sure, it can get a bit noisy if you’re a light sleeper, but I found it oddly soothing after a day or two.
Here’s the thing that really sold me though – step outside and you’re literally surrounded by some of the best dumplings, noodles, and bubble tea in the city. I’m talking about places like Joe’s Shanghai just around the corner, or you can wander over to Grand Street for those incredible pork buns at Nom Wah Tea Parlor. The hotel’s proximity to the subway is actually perfect too – you can hop on the 6 train at Spring Street or catch the N/Q/R at Canal, so getting around is surprisingly easy. I stayed here during Chinese New Year once and the energy was absolutely electric, though I’ll warn you it gets pretty packed with tourists during festival season. For a solid, no-nonsense base in one of Manhattan’s most culturally rich neighborhoods, Hotel Mulberry delivers exactly what you’d hope for – comfortable beds, hot showers, and that rare feeling that you’re staying somewhere with real character rather than another generic midtown box.

Exceptional
The room was very nice and clean and it had a wonderful balcony that we could sit outside and look at the city lights. We loved staying in Chinatown with the different cultures, food and market. We were also well positioned and with walking distance of so many things and the subway was easy accessible. It is also close enough to the Brooklyn bridge if you wanted to run or walk it. The staff was also very friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend the Mulberry Hotel.

What could be improved: Dated interior. Some stains on carpet. Balcony nice but no real way to utilize it—no furniture etc
Great, comfortable stay close to sights
Simple, clean and comfortable
What could be improved: It would have been nice if there were food options available, even if it was a snack machine. We arrived very late and very hungry…
