Hotel Five44 sits right in the thick of Hell’s Kitchen, and honestly, that’s exactly where you want to be if you’re trying to experience the real New York without paying Midtown prices. I mean, you’re literally on 48th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue – walk five minutes east and you’re at all the Times Square chaos, but step outside this three-star place and you’re surrounded by the kind of neighborhood spots that actually feed the people who work in those Broadway theaters.
The building itself has that classic New York brick thing going on, nothing too fancy but solid in a way that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual character. What really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to keep things relatively quiet despite being so close to all the action – I was expecting sirens and honking all night, but the rooms facing the street weren’t nearly as loud as I thought they’d be. The lobby’s pretty compact, which you know, typical for this part of town where every square foot costs a fortune, but the staff actually seems to know what they’re doing instead of just going through the motions. Check-in was quick, and they had decent recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps.
You know what I really appreciated? The rooms feel bigger than they probably are – they’ve done something smart with the layout that doesn’t make you feel like you’re living in a shoebox. The bathrooms are surprisingly modern too, which honestly wasn’t what I was expecting from a place at this price point. And look, it’s not going to blow you away with luxury amenities, but everything works properly and feels clean, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed in the city. The whole Hell’s Kitchen location thing is actually perfect if you want to eat well – there’s this incredible little Thai place two blocks down, and you’ve got Arthur Avenue-quality Italian spots within walking distance. Plus, you’re close enough to Central Park that you can actually get there on foot if you want to escape the concrete for a bit. The 50th Street subway station is right there too, so getting around the city is pretty straightforward. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was coming to see shows since you can basically roll out of bed and be at most of the theaters in ten minutes.

Great Location, very well received, just a really bad internet connection.
We were very well received by Mishel. The hotel is locatel in a area very close of restaurants and clubs to try.
What could be improved: The internet was really a bummer. We couldn't keep the connection and end up calling my family from a McDonalds.
Wonderful
Great host Misha and good location and clean
our nyc stay
clean, comfortable, warm room. No frills accommodation, no fancy foyer or gym needed as we were out morning till late. Excellent value for money.
What could be improved: Nothing.
Great no frills, clean stay with access to all the main sites.
It’s great value for money at a very busy time of the year.
Decent value for the money. Didn’t spend much time there because so much to do in the city.
Very spacious
What could be improved: Not close to any public transportation
For the price this is a top place to stay! Great location, comfortable bedroom and clean.
Mishel, the manager is an amazing person he made sure everything went well with our stay!
What could be improved: Well it does not have an elevator and is not easy to access the last floor, but for the price and location this is a minimal issue. Also it does not have a lobby so it is hard to spend time somewhere eles than you room.
Wonderful
