But step inside and wow, you’re immediately hit with this dramatic Gothic Revival vibe that feels more like a gentleman’s club from the 1920s than your typical hotel lobby. The dark wood paneling and library-style atmosphere actually make sense when you realize this four-star boutique property sits in the heart of the Financial District, surrounded by buildings that have seen centuries of New York business deals.

What really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to create this cozy, almost intimate feeling despite being right in the thick of everything downtown. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Stone Street – you know, that cobblestone strip where all the Wall Street folks grab drinks after work – and the South Street Seaport is right there if you want to escape the urban canyon feel for a bit. The rooms themselves lean into that whole sophisticated library theme, with rich fabrics and dark wood that somehow doesn’t feel heavy or oppressive. Actually, I found the lighting surprisingly warm for such a moody design scheme. The beds are fantastic too – I mean, you’d expect that from a Thompson property, but still worth mentioning.
