I’ll be honest – when I first walked into the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott New York Manhattan/Times Square South, I wasn’t expecting much from what I thought would be just another chain hotel. But this four-star place on West 36th Street actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe that feels way more upscale than typical Fairfield properties, and you know what? The staff genuinely seemed happy to help rather than just going through the motions.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to be close to everything without dealing with the absolute chaos of being right in Times Square. You’re in Hell’s Kitchen, which means you’re a quick walk to all the Broadway shows and tourist stuff, but you can also duck into some incredible local spots that most visitors never find. I mean, there’s this amazing little Korean barbecue place just two blocks down that locals line up for. The hotel sits right between Penn Station and Times Square, so getting around the city is incredibly easy – whether you’re hopping on the subway or catching a cab. And here’s something that matters more than people realize: the street noise is totally manageable. You’d think being so central would mean sirens all night, but the rooms facing the courtyard are surprisingly quiet.

What really sold me on this place though was the attention to small details that make a difference when you’re actually living there for a few days. The rooms are compact – this is New York after all – but they’re smartly designed with plenty of outlets near the bed and desk areas (thank god, because who travels with just one device anymore?). The breakfast is legitimately good, not just the usual stale pastries and watery coffee you get at most chain hotels. They’ve got this mini-market in the lobby that’s actually useful for grabbing snacks or forgotten essentials without having to venture out at midnight. The fitness center is small but functional, and honestly, after walking around Manhattan all day, you probably won’t need much more than a quick workout anyway. I was there during peak summer tourist season, and while the lobby got busy around check-in time, it never felt chaotic or understaffed. The elevators are reasonably fast too, which might seem like a minor thing until you’re on the 15th floor and running late for a show. For what you pay – and let’s face it, nothing in this part of Manhattan is cheap – you’re getting solid value and a genuinely comfortable base for exploring the city.
