You know what surprised me most about the Courtyard by Marriott New York World Trade Center Area? How quiet it actually gets at night, despite being right in the thick of everything on Greenwich Street. I mean, you’d expect the sirens and street noise to keep you up, but honestly – once you’re inside, it’s like the city just… fades away.
This three-star place sits in one of those spots where you can walk to basically anywhere that matters in lower Manhattan. I’m talking about a real five-minute stroll to the 9/11 Memorial (which, fair warning, can get pretty emotional even if you think you’re prepared), and you’re practically on top of the Fulton Street subway hub. That transit connection alone is worth its weight in gold – you can get literally anywhere in New York from there without the headache of transferring three times. The lobby feels more spacious than you’d expect for the area, though it definitely gets busy during check-in hours when all the business travelers descend at once around 3 PM.
What I really appreciated were the little touches that show someone was thinking about actual travelers, not just filling rooms. The fitness center stays open 24 hours – and I actually used it at 6 AM without feeling like I was disturbing anyone. The coffee in the lobby is surprisingly decent (not amazing, but way better than hotel coffee usually is), and there’s this casual restaurant situation that works perfectly when you’re too tired to venture out but don’t want room service prices. The rooms themselves are clean and functional without trying to be fancy – though I will say the bathroom setup is a bit tight if you’re sharing space with someone who likes to spread their stuff around. The Wi-Fi actually works, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many places still mess that up. One thing that caught my attention: the staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to Brooklyn Bridge without dealing with tourist crowds, the front desk guy gave me this route through Stone Street that I never would’ve found on my own. It’s those kinds of local insights that make a difference when you’re trying to experience the city like someone who actually lives here, not just checking boxes off a list.
