Overview

Chelsea Pines Inn

You know what struck me first about Chelsea Pines Inn?

You know what struck me first about Chelsea Pines Inn? It’s this wonderfully quirky little place tucked right into the heart of Chelsea that feels more like staying at your artsy friend’s apartment than a typical hotel. I mean, when you’re walking down West 14th Street looking for it, you might actually walk past it at first – it’s got this understated, residential vibe that blends right into the neighborhood’s brownstone charm.

The whole place has this three-star rating, but honestly, that doesn’t tell the whole story. What you’re getting here is character – loads of it. The rooms are compact (this is New York, after all), but they’re decorated with vintage movie posters and quirky touches that make you feel like you’ve stumbled into someone’s carefully curated collection. The staff genuinely seems to care about what they’re doing, which you notice right away during check-in when they actually take time to give you neighborhood recommendations instead of just handing over key cards. I stayed there during one of those sweltering July weeks, and while the air conditioning worked fine, the real charm was opening the windows at night and hearing the city settle into its late-night rhythm – not the crazy Times Square chaos, but that more authentic Manhattan hum that locals know.

Being right in Chelsea means you’re literally a few blocks from the High Line, which is perfect for morning walks before the tourist crowds descend. But here’s what I really appreciated – you can grab incredible coffee at Ninth Street Espresso just around the corner, and there’s this little corner bodega that stays open late where the guy behind the counter actually remembers your usual order after a couple days. The Meatpacking District is basically next door, so if you’re into nightlife, you’re golden, though fair warning – Friday and Saturday nights can get a bit loud with people spilling out of the clubs around 2 AM. Chelsea Market is an easy walk too, which saved me a fortune on overpriced hotel breakfast (the inn’s continental spread is pretty basic, to be honest). What really sold me on the place, though, was how it felt like a genuine slice of New York living. You’re not isolated in some sterile hotel bubble – you’re right there in a real neighborhood where people walk their dogs and grab groceries and live actual lives. Sure, the elevator is tiny and occasionally temperamental, and don’t expect a fitness center or room service, but if you want authentic New York character without the boutique hotel price tag, this place delivers in spades.

Cool looking, spacious apartment in a great area with subway, restaurants and pharmacy right there.

Absolutely loved the location, had a cool vibe. Subway station, restaurants, pharmacy all right right there, and Chelsea Market a very short walk away.

What could be improved: We were in the apartment and I didn't realise when booking that all 5 of us would be sleeping in such close proximity. I got the impression from the photos that there was a bed in a separate bedroom. It was fine though, the vibe of the apartment more than made up for it.

Wonderful

Room was clean and bathroom had two sinks

What could be improved: Room was very narrow and there was no where to put your clothes so you were living out of your bag. However, the location was good and we were only sleeping in the rooms and not spending any other time there so it really didn't effect the trip

Well priced hotel in a good location. Very convenient but definitely not luxurious.

Location was excellent close to the subway, Chelsea Markets and the High Line. Walkable to many areas. Staff were always approachable, helpful and friendly. Coffee. tea, cold drinks and kitchen facilities available. Very clean.

What could be improved: Unfortunately the bed was quite uncomfortable. Mattress was not the best. Room & Bathroom quite small. No breakfast available. Also no elevator and had quite steep stairs, but in fairness was priced accordingly for the location.

Our Christmas trip was beyond magical

The location was fantastic. We could not have chosen it better. Within walking distance to everywhere. Right next to a subway station. The rooms were warm and comfortable. The hotel is on a reasonably busy street but don't let this put you off, no noise can be heard.

What could be improved: The only thing we could have changed was the heating system. Unfortunately the noise either woke us up or kept us awake, but, after speaking to hotel staff it was soon sorted out.
