Wingate by Wyndham New York Midtown South/5th Ave
Look, I'll be honest – when I first walked into Wingate by Wyndham New York Midtown South/5th Ave, I wasn't expecting much from a three-star place smack in the middle of Manhattan's chaos.
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Wingate by Wyndham New York Midtown South/5th Ave, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place smack in the middle of Manhattan’s chaos. But you know what? This little spot on West 37th actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby’s got this clean, modern vibe that feels way more put-together than some of the tired midtown hotels I’ve crashed in over the years, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see me – which, let’s face it, isn’t always a given in New York.
The location is honestly pretty brilliant if you’re the type who likes to walk everywhere. You’re literally a five-minute stroll from the Empire State Building (though I mean, who hasn’t seen that thing a million times already), but more importantly, you’re right in the thick of the Garment District energy. There’s something kind of fascinating about watching the fashion industry hustle happen right outside your window – delivery trucks rumbling by at dawn, people rushing around with fabric samples. Bryant Park is maybe eight blocks north if you need some green space to decompress, and the subway situation is solid with Herald Square just down the street. I actually loved that it felt residential-ish on West 37th – less touristy madness than you’d get closer to Times Square, but still central enough that nothing’s really off-limits.
The rooms themselves are smaller than what you’d find in suburbia, obviously, but they’re smartly designed and surprisingly quiet considering you’re in the heart of everything. I slept better than I expected, which is saying something because I’m usually pretty sensitive to city noise. The beds are decent quality – not luxury, but definitely comfortable enough that I wasn’t tossing and turning all night. What I really appreciated were the little thoughtful touches, like having enough outlets near the bed (revolutionary concept, I know) and a bathroom that actually fits a normal-sized human being. The breakfast setup is pretty standard continental fare, nothing revolutionary, but the coffee’s better than hotel lobby average and there’s enough variety to fuel your day without breaking the bank at some overpriced deli. Honestly, for the price point in this neighborhood, you’re getting solid value – it’s clean, functional, and the kind of place where you can actually relax after spending twelve hours pounding the pavement around Manhattan.

Great
Very clean. Good location.
nice small hotel in a central location. Good for short stays.
Staying the garment district is nice bc you are central and by subway lines.
What could be improved: less deodorizer is needed :)
Wonderful
Very close to a lot of things. The room was comfortable and clean. We definitely will be returning!
Within walking distance to most of New York’s attractions
Excellent location. Was on the 16th floor, lovely view of Empire State Building. Spacious room and bed was extremely comfortable
Wonderful
Our experience at the Wingate was brilliant. The room was immaculate with the most fantastic view of the Empire State. AC was very much welcome as the weather was very hot outside and it was wonderful to come back to a beautifully cool room after a long day of exploring the city.
The size of the room was ample for a NYC hotel, and at no time did we feel it was too small. Breakfast was good, and it was great to have this on offer to start our day.
The staff kindly let us leave our bags when we checked out, and we returned later in the afternoon to pick them up before heading to JFK.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and will look to rebook again when we are next in NY.
What could be improved: I can't think of any negatives
Very Good
Perfect spot in a good Manhattan location, convenient, good value, and ideal if you're looking for somewhere easy to stay. Will be staying here again next time.
Great location, friendly staff, and a great place to rest your head!
The bed was very comfortable. Great breakfast, staff were helpful and kind.
What could be improved: Rooms were a bit too small- but it’s NY so I was expecting that. Didn’t bother us much as we didn’t stay in the room much.
Perfectly-located slim no-frills boutique hotel to get good sleep, eat breakfast, then unleash on NY!
Super quiet for sleeping!!! Half of rooms have view up to the Empire State! Clean and tidy. Protein at breakfast! Not just continental. (You’ll likely carry it back up to the room to have space to eat which is easy.) Friendly people.
What could be improved: With a tight floor plate (only 4 rooms per floor, 18 floors), you don’t get a lot of lobby space, but the lovely staff do a lot with the little they have.
The lifts make a loud beep for every floor- wonder if that could get toned down next maintenance?
Good stay.
Location.
What could be improved: The size of the room.
Great place
I like that it was convenient and close to time square, I like that it was walking distance to a lot of restaurants and clothing stores.
What could be improved: The only thing I didn’t like was my room was small and I didn’t have much room to move around.
