The Historic Blue Angel Hotel Lexington Ave, an Ascend Collection
Look, I'll be honest – when I first walked up to The Historic Blue Angel Hotel Lexington Ave, an Ascend Collection on East 55th, I wasn't expecting much from a three-star place in Midtown East.
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to The Historic Blue Angel Hotel Lexington Ave, an Ascend Collection on East 55th, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place in Midtown East. But you know what? This little gem actually surprised me in the best way possible.
The building itself has this old-school New York character that you just don’t find in those glass tower hotels anymore. I mean, the lobby’s got these beautiful original details – think vintage moldings and that kind of worn-in elegance that feels authentic rather than trying-too-hard fancy. The staff actually remembers your name after a day or two, which honestly caught me off guard. And here’s something practical that matters: the elevators are surprisingly quick for an older building, so you’re not standing there forever with your coffee getting cold.
What really sold me on this place is the location – you’re right in the thick of things but on a street that’s not completely insane with traffic noise. I could walk to Grand Central in maybe eight minutes (I timed it), and there’s this little deli two blocks down that locals hit up for the best breakfast sandwiches. The rooms themselves? Well, they’re New York-sized, so don’t expect a palace, but they’re clean and the beds are actually comfortable. The windows open too, which is rarer than you’d think in Manhattan hotels. I stayed during a pretty busy week in October and never felt like I was fighting crowds just to get in and out of the lobby. The neighborhood has that perfect mix where you’ve got your Starbucks and CVS within a block, but also some real character spots that haven’t been chain-stored to death yet. Honestly, for the price point and the genuine personality of the place, I’d stay here again – and I’m pretty picky about hotels after years of work travel gone wrong.

Great hotel for an overnight trip to the city and for a great bargain price.
I liked how centrally located the hotel was to restaurants and coffee shops.
What could be improved: I didn’t like not having a window to look out of it seemed a bit claustrophobic.
Wonderful staff, feels like the Old New York without the dust and the price tag. Loved it!&

Exceptional
Fantastic greeting ,lovely staff. Big room with great power shower and very comfortable beds. Large tv. Complimentary mini fridge which was restocked daily. Also unlimited tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the lobby. Location was great too, close to Central Park and the centre but quiet at night. Rooftop seating area was an added bonus.
What could be improved: Having to leave!
Second year year in a row we stayed here for one night while attending the Us Open.
Location, reasonable price, quaint boutique hotel
Good value for central location
Location - Close to some of NYC’s major attractions. Staff was helpful as well
Being there for the second time, it again confirmed my excellent experience from the last year.
Great hotel and especially the staff. Everything was great (again) and will definitely come again next year.
Always a good choice to stay here, easy, comfy and clean.
Make up mirror is good here.
What could be improved: I like an actual BATHTUB. but few hotels provide.
