Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Pod 51, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place in Midtown. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in small packages, and this little spot on East 51st really gets it right where it counts.
The whole “pod” concept actually works here, which I was skeptical about at first. Yeah, the rooms are compact – I mean, really compact – but they’ve designed every inch so thoughtfully that you don’t feel cramped, just… efficient? The bed was surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and honestly, the sound-proofing is way better than some fancier places I’ve stayed in New York. You’re right in the thick of Midtown East, but I could barely hear the street noise once I closed the door. The ensuite bathroom is basically airplane-sized, but everything works perfectly and the water pressure is solid – little things like that matter when you’re actually living there for a few days.
What really sold me on this place is how the staff just gets the New York hustle without being rushed or rude about it. Check-in was smooth, they knew the neighborhood inside and out (ask them about the best coffee spot – it’s not Starbucks), and they didn’t try to upsell me on anything. The location is actually pretty perfect if you think about it – you’re walking distance to Grand Central, which means you can get anywhere in the city without dealing with the Times Square chaos. I found myself grabbing dinner in Little Italy one night, then easily hopping over to the East Village the next, all without that touristy Midtown trap feeling. Plus, there’s this great little deli literally next door where locals grab breakfast – I ended up eating there three mornings in a row because the guy behind the counter remembered my order and the bagels were legit.
The common areas have this cool industrial vibe without trying too hard to be trendy, and I actually saw people working on laptops in the lobby, which tells you the WiFi doesn’t suck. One thing to note – if you’re someone who needs a lot of space to spread out, this might not be your spot. But if you’re planning to actually explore the city instead of hanging in your room, Pod 51 gives you a clean, comfortable base that doesn’t blow your budget. I’ve stayed in $300-a-night places in Manhattan that felt more cramped and way less thoughtfully designed than this. Sometimes you just want a place that does the basics really well, and that’s exactly what you get here.
Early hotels booking in New York requires advance planning during peak seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s Broadway shows, world-class shopping, and American cultural attractions.

Great location, value for money and well-equiped rooms
Really nice staff, the room was clean and exactly as advertised. Great location in Midtown East and great rooftop terrasse.
What could be improved: I had a room with shared bathroom, and the bathrooms were often occupied in the mornings. They were very clean though often with water all over the floor when other guests had been showering.
Perfect
Very comfortable beds and pillows. They give you a lot of towels , the rooms are small but perfect if you don’t wanna be in bed all day.
What could be improved: The A/C could be improved , but it was alright 😌
Perfect, modest accommodations for a solo traveler
The pod room is modest but appropriate for a single traveler. A twin size bed, a sink in the room, a desk. 4 shared bathrooms per floor with toilet and shower in each, serving the 28 or so rooms on that floor. The best was that above the door inside each room were indicator lights showing which of the 4 bathrooms were occupied at that moment, so you knew before you left the room which one was available for you to use. All 4 were never in use at the same time even during the morning rush.
What could be improved: Free wifi was limited to about 4 mbps, which is fine, but pretty slow!
It was a good stay
It was a small, clean room and two shared bathroom on each floor. A nice rooftop. Staff were personable. It was a good stay.
What could be improved: A microwave in the common space would have been nice. NY is just crazy expensive and to pay $225 a night for a shoebox felt way too much, but that's how it is.
Very Good
Good area, lots of good local ammenities. Good price.
Staff very courteous and helpful
What could be improved: Had a room on street side of the hotel... got a bit noisy sometimes
Very Good
The comfy bed
What could be improved: There was no jug
Amazing for solo travelling
It’s an amazing place for a solo traveler, it has everything you need although i would have appreciated a kitchen. Overall very good experience.
What could be improved: The sink in the double bedroom with bathroom was a little small and i could not properly wash my face or brush my teeth without water falling all over the place. I would also have appreciated different phone charging methods for universal adapters.
pod 51
The room was small but from the second night it became comfortable and the washroom was very clean and very good no complaints about the washroom and night view on the rooftop is amazing 🤩😻 and main thing pod is in right place in the City.
What could be improved: nothing to say about this
If it’s only for one night is perfect, specially if you are going to Broadway, otherwise try to find a different place.
The location is fantastic, and the staff are so niche. There is a fine coffee at the first floor.
What could be improved: We got a really uncomfortable room. Like really uncomfortable. My husband and I couldn’t be at the same time + bags. There are no instructions to operate AC unit so very very very small and melting all the time. But I must say that is only this one cause the Brooklyn one is incredible!
Great place to stay with the odd hiccup.
The location to the subway and other sightseeing’s was excellent. Lots of good restaurants in the area. Personnel very friendly and the wonderful retreat on the rooftop was highly enjoyable. Very clean, spacious for NY standards and well equipped rooms.
What could be improved: For two days there was no hot water in the shower. The other downside was the „generator“ above, we were on level 11. To sleep with the window open very very noisy.
