New York Marriott Downtown
Look, I've stayed at a lot of hotels in Manhattan over the years, but the New York Marriott Downtown really surprised me – and honestly, that doesn't happen often anymore.
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in Manhattan over the years, but the New York Marriott Downtown really surprised me – and honestly, that doesn’t happen often anymore. When I first walked into the lobby, I was expecting another generic business hotel, but there’s something about this place that feels more grounded in New York than most chains manage to pull off.
The location is what really sold me, though. You’re right there on West Street, which means you can actually walk to the 9/11 Memorial without dealing with subway transfers or crazy taxi rides through traffic. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from One World Trade Center, and the Hudson River waterfront is right across the street – I spent way too much time just wandering along that path in the evenings. What I didn’t expect was how quiet the rooms actually are, considering you’re in the Financial District. Sure, you get some street noise during the day, but it’s not the honking chaos you deal with in Midtown. The four-star rating feels about right – the rooms are clean and modern without being flashy, decent-sized bathrooms (which is saying something for New York), and the beds are actually comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the pillows all night.
Here’s what I really appreciated: the staff seems to get that most people staying here are either business travelers who need things to work smoothly, or tourists who are slightly overwhelmed by the city. Check-in was fast, they had actual recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the usual tourist traps, and when I needed to print boarding passes at 6 AM, someone was actually at the front desk and helpful about it. The fitness center is small but functional – nothing fancy, but if you need to burn off some energy after too many New York pizza slices, it’ll do the job. You know what really impressed me though? The concierge actually knew which subway entrance would be easiest with luggage, and warned me that the R train gets packed around 8 AM. Those little details matter when you’re trying to navigate the city. The neighborhood comes alive during weekdays with all the financial workers, but weekends are surprisingly peaceful. You’re close enough to Stone Street’s bars and restaurants to have some nightlife options, but far enough from the real party areas that you can actually sleep. Is it the fanciest hotel in the city? No. But for the price point and location, especially if you’re planning to spend time downtown or in Brooklyn, it’s a solid choice that won’t leave you feeling like you overpaid or missed out on the real New York experience.

Great hotel, family friendly, close to landmarks. Nice neighborhood, no ghetto stuff lol
Clean, nice modern rooms. Comfortable beds. Enough amenities for the family. There is a burger type pub in the hotel which had amazing burgers. There is also a Starbucks on sight which isn't my favorite but was convenient if you need a coffee. Parking isn't bad for NYC there are two garages, one on either side of the hotel. I noticed a valet type service after I already self parked next door not sure but I believe they use them as well just handle the nonsense for you. All in all It was a good experience.
What could be improved: I arrived at 1:30pm granted check in wasn't until 4:00pm. They could not check me in and seemed like they had a hard time getting the rooms ready in time. I was offered the ability to check my bags and to be called once a room was available. The issue with the car park is once it's in the garage that's it until you leave so you better grab everything you need out of your car. We went to the 911 memorial right up the road then to freedom tower. After that to the pub on sight of the hotel. It was now 4:10pm. Went to get my room and it was still not available. After waiting another 10 or so minutes past that they had found me a room. Not a huge issue but the only negative thing I could find with the hotel. Other than that it was beautiful and would definitely stay again.
Very Good
location, view
What could be improved: price, parking cost
It was great.
The hotel was in a good location. We mostly used metro and the hotel was only few minutes walk from the station. Also only 2-3 minutes walk from 9/11.
Very close to Wall Street and Brooklyn Bridge.
The restaurant in the hotel was great.
Hotel was very clean, staff were very welcoming and super friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: The restaurant staff was not as friendly as the hotel staff. Also the restaurant staff at night time are much much nicer and 100 times more friendly and welcoming than the morning staff.
Great Choice!
I liked that our stay included breakfast, discounted dinners, hop on-hop off tour, and bicycle access. Nearly everything was great!
What could be improved: I did not like that there is not nearly enough light in the bathroom to do hair and makeup. The bathroom lighting was VERY poor. I did not like that there is not a proper window covering. There was a see-through shade, but those across from us in another building could easily see through. There was no curtain to block the light from coming in during the early morning. I did not like that there was no microwave available for guests. The only one they had was not in working order. It would have been nice if the stay also included the tour out to the statue of liberty and Ellis Island.
Fine. Quite expensive, but that’s to expect in NYC
Location and cleanliness
What could be improved: The hotel restaurant was very crowded and they didn’t have on the go alternatives for travelers
Wonderful. Would highly recommend! Good value for money.
Convenient location. Many train stations nearby that travel to upper Manhattan and even to Brooklyn. Safe because near the World Trade Center. It’s also peaceful and quiet at night as it’s in the financial district. Nearby is Battery Park where you can see the Statue of Liberty without taking the ferry.
Room is very spacious for a family of 4 with 2 teenage kids.
What could be improved: The double beds were a tad small and too soft for my liking.
Good
Good size room. Very good size for New York. Paid extra for Hudson river view. Which was good, especialy at night. But added to costs.
Very good location . Near World Trade centre site and the Subway station. Easy to get to other parts of city.
Clean Room which was serviced each day. A Comfey bed. No problems with sleeping.
What could be improved: Cost of breakfast, what was offered was good , but it was way way over priced for what is was. You paid for the convenice of not leaving Hotel. Also daily resort fee. Charged you for things you would not use. Why do they do this?
I know this is New York, but hotel is still over priced . Even taking into account the location and upper floor view I had from Room
More than adequate, less than ecstatic
Great location for my purposes. Near subway, easy taxi hailing, quiet, lovely staff
What could be improved: Lobby had inadequate seating, had to request shower cap, notepad, coffee maker was meh, no bathtub
Fine
I never received my $25 credit for the two meals I received from Bill’s
Room with a view- check No Icemachine outside
the view - especially as I had meetings all the time and didn’t have time to visit New York!
it also close to the 9/11 Memorial for short walks in the evening!
What could be improved: my initial room was just outside the ice machine and I was disturbed a lot the first night! it took a lot of discussions before I was moved to another room with a view and without the ice machine outside!
