Hotel AKA NoMad

I'll be honest - when I first walked into Hotel AKA NoMad, I wasn't sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked into Madison Avenue.

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Hotel AKA NoMad, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked into Madison Avenue. The NoMad neighborhood has this interesting energy where it feels like proper Manhattan but without the crushing tourist crowds you get further south. You know what struck me immediately? The lobby has this residential feel that’s actually refreshing – it doesn’t scream “hotel” the moment you walk in, which I mean in the best possible way.

The location on Madison at 30th Street is honestly pretty perfect if you ask me. You’re literally steps from the original NoMad Restaurant (which, fair warning, you’ll want to make reservations way ahead), and Herald Square is close enough to be useful but far enough that you won’t hear the chaos at night. I stayed here during Fashion Week once and the whole area buzzed with this creative energy – lots of showrooms and design studios tucked into the surrounding blocks. The subway situation is solid too – you’ve got the 6 train at 28th Street and the N/Q/R/W at Herald Square, so getting around is actually straightforward.

What really sets this place apart though is how they’ve managed to feel boutique-y without being pretentious about it. The rooms have this sophisticated thing going on – sort of like staying in a well-designed apartment rather than a typical hotel box. The bathrooms are genuinely nice (marble everything, rainfall showers), and honestly, the beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in New York. The building itself has character – you can tell it’s got history, which adds something you just can’t manufacture in newer properties. I’ve noticed the service tends to be more personalized than you’d expect, probably because they’re not massive like some of the Midtown giants. The staff actually remembers your name after a day or two, which is refreshing. One thing to keep in mind – this isn’t a party hotel, and the vibe skews more toward business travelers and couples looking for something sophisticated. If you’re planning to stumble in at 3am every night, maybe look elsewhere. But if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals might actually recommend rather than just another tourist trap, Hotel AKA NoMad delivers on that front completely.

Great location and nice overpriced bar downstairs

Location was perfect.

What could be improved: We stayed 4 nights and they offered us 2 waters and 6 coffee pods for the entire stay. That was a cheap move that annoyed us… hate being nickeled and dimed

What could be improved: Breakfeast SHOULD BE INCLUDED
FIX the slow archaic elevator. You changed the entire Rogers without investing in the most used part.... The elevator
As to the Q about wifi- No hotel at this star rating offers a room without free wifi ..Q looks silly.

Great service, funky hotel, good breakfast and lovely bedrooms

Nice decor, vibe, linen, coffee and toiletries.

What could be improved: Just a bit over priced for what it is.

Great stay in the big apple!!!!

On arrival check in was a really smooth and quick process, decor was modern and welcoming. The room was well equipped and the terrace area was wonderful to enjoy the view of the Empire State Building. The doorman was always ready to help with recommendations and a warm welcome upon our every return.

What could be improved: I would have thought given the calibre of the hotel that free water would be given every day and not only on arrival.

Great stay in a great location! Just loud and annoying a/c unit

Beautiful hotel in a great location. Staff was all wonderful and nice.

What could be improved: The room smelled kind of bad. I think it was the cleaning products they used. Smelled like super strong men’s cologne. Also the A/C unit was way too loud and had a light that was constantly on right above the bed.

I had a comfortable stay. It is very close to everything I needed and the staff put it over the top.

The service was really top notch and the rooms are pretty large for NYC.

Great location and comfortable hotel

The staff was made sure we were welcomed, were very friendly and gave us good recommendations for places to go. The room was very comfortable and clean. I will stay here again.

What could be improved: The restaurant. It's dark and the breakfast that is included was not worth it.
