Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Hilton Garden Inn NYC Financial Center/Manhattan Downtown – it’s not the flashiest place you’ll find in New York, but honestly? That’s exactly why it works so well. This three-star spot sits right on Water Street, and I mean literally steps from the East River waterfront, which gives you this surprisingly peaceful buffer from the usual Manhattan chaos.
What really got me about this place was how it manages to feel both corporate-efficient and genuinely comfortable at the same time. The lobby’s got that clean Hilton Garden aesthetic – you know, modern but not trying too hard – and the staff actually remembers your name after the first day, which is rarer than you’d think in this city. I stayed here during a particularly brutal July heat wave, and their AC was absolutely bulletproof, plus the rooms are surprisingly quiet considering you’re basically in the heart of the Financial District. The beds are those crisp white Hilton standard setups that somehow always feel fresh, and there’s enough space to actually open your suitcase without doing yoga moves around the furniture.
Here’s what I really appreciated though – the location is kind of genius if you think about it. Sure, Financial District can feel like a ghost town on weekends, but during the week you’re walking distance to literally everything that matters downtown. Stone Street’s amazing cobblestone restaurant scene is maybe three minutes away, you can walk to Brooklyn Bridge in about ten minutes, and the subway connections are actually better than a lot of Midtown spots. The 4/5/6 trains at Bowling Green are right there, and honestly, getting to anywhere in Manhattan or Brooklyn is pretty seamless. Plus – and this is huge – the neighborhood empties out after business hours, so you get this weird peaceful feeling that’s almost impossible to find elsewhere in the city. I’d walk back from dinner in Little Italy or SoHo around 10 PM and it felt like having your own private corner of New York, which is pretty magical if you ask me. The hotel’s restaurant does solid American comfort food too, nothing groundbreaking but way better than room service from most places, and their 24/7 market saved me more than once when I needed actual snacks, not just overpriced hotel minibar nonsense.

Good hotel for the location
The location to the Staten Island ferry and other water activities was great. Close to all kinds of subways.
What could be improved: The tub filled up with water every time you took a shower. The café/restaurant is little to be desired. The location has only a few places for food.
Nice hotel in a great location. A tad overpriced
Great location.
What could be improved: Cupboard doors where difficult to open
Enjoyable
The room was nice, clean, big enough, good bathroom. It had an ice machine on our floor which was great.
The lift was great. We were on the 18th floor and it only took seconds to get there. Very efficient we don’t have lifts as good as this in the UK.
Location was great. Really close to the subway station and easy access to several different lines. Very easy to get around
What could be improved: There was a dog in the room next to us which barked all the time and was really annoying. I don’t think dogs should be allowed.
They could do with having more water machines in the building. The only one was in the gym which isn’t the worst thing in the world but it would be more convenient to have more
Wonderful
Clean and comfort
What could be improved: Room only has partial view of river
Perfect NYC Base with Helpful Staff and Spacious Room
Excellent location—just a 15-minute walk to Wall Street and close to shops, restaurants, fast food, and the park/river. The room was spacious for NYC and well-equipped with everything you might need: iron, ironing board, desk, fridge, AC, and microwave. A big plus was being able to store luggage for free before check-in and after check-out. The reception staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, which made the stay even more enjoyable.
What could be improved: If I had to point out a small negative, it would be that only paper/plastic cups were available and no cutlery in the room. But even this was not a real issue, as the receptionist quickly provided us with cutlery upon request. So overall, nothing to complain about! 😄
Wonderful
Great location, very friendly and helpful staff. The room service was spectacular, always tidy and clean
What could be improved: Even though it's not a problem in itself, the room didn't have a complimentary hygiene kit. Having access to amenities such as a tooth brush, tooth paste and/or slippers is always life-saving, especially when you are travelling on your own with little spare time.
We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.
You have to have a room key to access your floor. The staff was attentive.
What could be improved: The shower door wouldn’t close properly. When we first turned on the sink, it ran brown water. Going to the basement to get drinking water was inconvenient but it was nice it was available.
Comfortable and accessible
Loved the location of the property, from subway to the cafés and breakfast joints to the Liberty Ferry’s everything was in walking distance range and was really well connected
