I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Courtyard New York Downtown Manhattan/Financial District, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place in the Financial District. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in all the right ways. The lobby has this clean, modern feel without trying too hard, and the staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions. I mean, finding decent accommodations in lower Manhattan that won’t completely destroy your budget is trickier than most people think.
What really won me over was the location – and I don’t just mean “convenient,” I mean practically perfect for exploring downtown New York. You’re literally a few blocks from Stone Street (which, honestly, is one of my favorite little cobblestone areas for grabbing a beer), and the 9/11 Memorial is close enough for an easy morning walk. The subway connections are solid too – the R and W trains at Whitehall-South Ferry are right there, plus you’ve got the 4, 5, and 6 at Bowling Green within reasonable walking distance. I stayed here during a busy September week, and while the Financial District can feel like a ghost town on weekends, it’s actually kind of nice having the neighborhood to yourself.
The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a Marriott property – nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s genuinely clean. The beds are comfortable enough that I actually slept well despite the occasional siren (which, let’s face it, is just part of the New York experience). One thing I appreciated was how quiet it gets at night once the business crowd clears out. The fitness center is small but functional, and there’s a decent lobby area where you can actually get some work done if needed. Parking is available but pricey – honestly, you’re better off just using the subway or walking everywhere from here. The breakfast situation is pretty standard hotel fare, nothing to write home about but it’ll fuel you up for a day of wandering around downtown. Overall, it’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re getting solid value without any unpleasant surprises, which in Manhattan is honestly more than half the battle.
