Overview

Aloft Harlem

I'll be honest, when I first heard about Aloft Harlem, I wasn't sure what to expect – but this place completely surprised me in the best way.

I’ll be honest, when I first heard about Aloft Harlem, I wasn’t sure what to expect – but this place completely surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked right on Frederick Douglass Boulevard, and you know what? The location actually works perfectly. You’re in the heart of Harlem without feeling like you’re stuck in tourist central, which I really appreciated.

The whole vibe hits you the moment you walk in. This is definitely a four-star property, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or overly formal like some places in that category. The lobby has this cool, modern energy – sort of industrial-chic meets comfortable hangout spot. I mean, there were people actually working on laptops and having conversations, not just rushing through to get to their rooms. The check-in was smooth (no weird surprises with fees or anything), and the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there, which honestly makes such a difference.

What really got me was how the hotel fits into Harlem itself. You’re walking distance from some incredible spots – Marcus Garvey Park is right there when you need a break from city chaos, and the food scene around here is just phenomenal. I grabbed breakfast at a little place two blocks down that locals clearly frequent, then walked back past the Apollo Theater (yeah, that Apollo Theater) on my way to catch the subway. Speaking of which, the 125th Street station is close enough that you don’t need to budget extra time for transportation, but far enough that you’re not dealing with constant subway rumble in your room. The neighborhood has this authentic energy during the day – people going about their lives, kids playing, that kind of real New York feeling you don’t always get in more touristy areas. Evenings bring a different vibe with the music venues and restaurants lighting up, but it never felt unsafe or overly chaotic.

Back at the hotel, the rooms are smartly designed – nothing huge, but everything has its place. The bed was actually comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and I loved that they had proper blackout curtains. You know how some places claim to have them but you’re still waking up at 6 AM because of street lights? Not an issue here. The bathroom was clean and modern, though I will say the shower pressure could’ve been a bit stronger. The whole tech setup worked well too – good WiFi, easy-to-use TV, charging stations that actually make sense. There’s also this fun communal area with games and a bar that gets pretty lively in the evenings. I ended up chatting with other travelers there, which doesn’t happen everywhere. Honestly, for the price point and the experience you get, this place delivers. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in New York, but it nails being a really solid, enjoyable place to stay while you explore one of the city’s most culturally rich neighborhoods.

Exploring New York offers visitors an unforgettable journey through America’s most iconic city, from its towering skyscrapers to its diverse neighborhoods and world-renowned connections to global culture and commerce.

It was awesome

I loved the space I had for my first solo trip. Very clean bathroom and nice layout of everything. I was there for a music festival and got to enjoy my time to myself in the room and rest before going into the town.

What could be improved: Nothing was wrong except my shower spout had a couple clogged holes so it would squirt in a weird direction.

It’s last min I need a place to sleep in for one night but I’m surprised it’s very nice hotel to sleep in. Definitely co

It’s nice and quiet. I like a big shower.

What could be improved: They need to upgrade their tv and more strong water pressure for shower. Thats all I can say. The bed mattress isn’t bad.

A pleasant 3-Star experience

I had read some negative reviews, but honestly, my experience was very good for a 3-star hotel! The staff were friendly and helped me with everything I needed. I had no issues during my stay!

What could be improved: The area isn't very touristy (which wasn't a big deal for the purpose of my trip), but there's a metro station just a block and a half away, and the express line takes you to Downtown in under 20 minutes!

We had an enjoyable stay in a great location that was accessible to the subway and the sites of NYC.

Location and staff. The room and bed were very comfortable, too.

What could be improved: Elevator from street was very small/tight.

Wonderful

Clean room, well laid out. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location.

What could be improved: HVAC is too noisy and blows directly onto the bed.

Good

What could be improved: I didn't use the breakfast during my stay at this hotel. Regarding the location, it was good but not perfect; it was a little far from downtown, so I had to use the subway whenever I wanted to get there. However, the neighborhood was quiet and seemed safe.
